In the immediate vicinity of busy areas, markets and the bus stands, and always at night - specifically Jaipur and Agra. I have not seen the same in the south or in the mountains.

you would be surprised by the numbers, nick, and clearly growing. i suppose not all english girls are into mediterranean men. i recently met a german lady - same old story. she met a local fisherman in kerala - first two years of romance - now that she has run out of money (or refuses to part with it - this is her side of the story - i don't know what his problems with her may be) he is drunk and abusive towards her. this kind of experience is not limited to india - i have come across women in the same boat in greece, for example. very rare cases where things work out for the best.

Markets I absolutely understand - ( or perhaps don't ) - my brother found it a giggle to get us both down to the Mahatma Phule market in Pune at 3 am in the morning a couple of times in the late '70s so he could show me how the riff-raff (HIS terms) in India lived and worked.

I returned the favor when he visited me in Liverpool, Middlesboro, London, Birmingham and when my nephew visited me in Los Angeles.

You pays your money and takes your choice I guess; so at least we all know where the more overtly and aggressive sexist males live and work - that's part of traveling I guess.

What, world-wide? For the whole of May?

That's some party; I hope Hal has been saving up for a few years.

Could also lead to some pretty bad tourist behaviour!

Can I just say I heard all sorts of dire warnings about eve teasing from a colleague who'd gone travelling in India a couple of years ago, another whose family are from Delhi and another friend who went ravelling with her fiance last year.
However, not once did I experience a single comment or wandering hand from any of the Indian men in the three states in South India we travelled in, even when the other half was sick in an hotel room and I had to go get supplies for him.
I wore a kurta most of the time and harem pants/knee length skirt but apparently this didn't help the other half's ex wife 20years ago.
Not sure if it's down to projecting a 'don't touch/say anything' attitude but just thought it would be good to point out women don't get hassled all the time!

That is a good point, I have seen some that were and yet have known some that never were bothered. Of course, one was my spouse who can rip the hide off a man in a half dozen Indic languages (and does)..
