Nick, you're a funny guy! That was my first really good laugh in a couple of dyas. I'm still chuckling.

Phew!
All we need now is that other woman as a member. But it sounds like she didn't exactly fall for India. |

Yep. I agree. Chatting up some bloke when your friend is waiting at a strange airport is not on.
Yah-boo-sucks, indeed. |

Ditto Nick. Gotta remember that one for the next flame war

I think it would be more interesting if the 'knight in shining armour' was a member.
It would be fun to hear what he made of it. |

I would like to think that India is full of Knights in Shining Armour. I don't really know if it is or not, but it would fit my image of the place which, after 30 years, is more fantasy than reality anyway. I know that I will never get to go there again, so I can have whatever image of the place, in my own mind, that I want. I choose to remember it as a magical place, full of free spirits and laughter and generosity and Knights in Shining Armour for every Lady in Distress.

I'll never get to go to India again
Several reasons, Machadinha. My wife is not so adventurous and would not like to sample India. She worries about disease and strange food and insects. I have never asked her if she would like to go there, but after 25 years I know her well enough. She would not be interested. I go on a lot of business trips for a few days at a time, but I would never go away to someplace nice for pleasure, without her.
My body is not what it used to be. My left foot and ankle are wrecked, so I don't get around very fast, or go very far at a time. I also have some medical issues that keep my doctors busy with monthly maintenance visits. I can't imagine taking a trip similar to my past adventures in India, with the body that I have today. So, ok, never say never. But it's not likely Sorry. ![]() |

Hey, Canada Paul, if you wanted to go, you could go by yourself between the monthly maintenance visits! Pick out a couple of places you would really like to see, make life easy for yourself with the travelling and stay longer times at those places. I think you'd have a great time that way! The first time I came to India was without my first husband because he didn't want to go - it was no problem and I had a wonderful time in South India for 6 weeks. Now I travel much on my own while Mr K 'holds the fort' back home and it is just not an issue. So you never know, if you think about it, it just might be likely!
Talking of meeting at airports, the first time I arrived in Delhi I was to be met by my tabla teacher. Arrived on the midnight flight, a terrible time and no sign of him. Like you, Chickpea, the panic set in. I frantically tried to find his home phone no. Some fellow passengers asked me what was wrong - they were more seasoned travellers and suggested he might be outside. Many locals won't pay the entrance fee. Sure enough he was! We don't have these fees back in NZ and Oz so it wouldn't have occurred to me that there were also crowds of people outside the airport waiting for arrivals too.

Well, cr*p! I didn't realize I was an "old fogey"... sigh... but at 52 maybe I am. In my mind, sometimes I'm still in the 70's ESPECIALLY when I read these posts. This could have been anywhere in the U.S. too (at least with my friends)-- tree stump coffee table, cable roll tables, boards & bricks, you know. We made do. Now, money has brought us comfort and stuff but I think our hearts & minds will always remain where/when we were the happiest. I'm happy now, but wasn't life so uncomplicated back then!! Maybe that's why I loved India so... it still remains a tad uncomplicated, underneath it all.

It is a bit like the 70's here - the boys have flairs (or are they back in fashion in other worlds?)They also wear lurex woollen sweaters! Now the weather's warming up there are less of them. No, Gardener, you're definitely not an 'old fogey'!!!
