Work Visa? Business Visa?

I'm an expat and director of an Indian Company. I've been in India working on a "Business Visa" for the past year and a half. I have a PAN card, an apartment leased in my company's name, Indian income, an Indian credit card, yet no work visa. My accountant says a "work visa" is "not required."

Is there any reason why I should get a work visa? FYI My company is small.

From the legal point of view you could get into trouble. A "business visa" is usually for business trips. You are actually not allowed to work based on this visa. Although it seems that many people do so.

I just applied for a work permit as I will start working in India in October. It wasn't a big deal. I had to fill out the visa application accordingly and added a lot of paper work:
- my contract for my job in India
- Copy of the company registration in India (Reserve Bank of India as well as Company Registrar)
- Letter stating that all my expenses are covered by the mother company in Germany
- Letter explaining why my job cannot be done by a local Indian plus explanation that in case of success it may be possible that additional Indians will be employed (secretarys, assistants etc.)
- Copy of my diploma

I brought everything to the consulate on Monday and today I got a call that I can pick up my 2 years work permit tomorrow.
