Why are non-resident Indians so much in love with India?
I have noticed this while travelling abroad. Non-Resident Indians, even if they are 3rd/4th generation immigrant seem to have a deep sense f belonging and attachment to India - when some of them have never even visited the country.
You see that everywhere - in the Cricket Stadium (Oval or Adelaide or Jo'Burg); at Airports; in Universities; in Restaurants - everywhere. If anybody (who is not Indian) criticises anything Indian, the NRIs are the first ones to jump up in protest. I have seen Indians in India, meekly "#$cking" up to a foreign visitor mumbling in an apologetic tone...."you know, this happens only in India. What to do, we are like this only". Not so our NRI brothers - they will defend their motherland - ALWAYS.
Even the bond with the culture is very strong. Most of my friends cannot carry on a conversation without using generous sprinkling of english words or phrases or sentences. A friend of mine who left for Trinidad at the age of 9 and is now 50+, speaks fluent Bengali - much better than I do myself.
I know, some of them may criticise things when they visit India, but then who does not? Most of my friends who have never set foot outside the country are very bitter in their criticism of the system or the government or the bureaucracy.....and most of the visitors as well do not miss an opportunity to offer "constructive feedback", albeit sugar-coated with polite praise.
What is it that makes the bond with India so strong for these Indians leaving outside the country? Is it the culture? Is it how Indians are brought up? Is it genetic?

Good topic. I love India and so do a lot of my friends NRIs as well who are not of Indian origin. (Some haven't even been there). One of my friends, who happens to be of Indian and Sikh origin, actually has strong words against people who critcise India even a bit.
Later,
Later,
Some are 'frustrated' and some are not. Anyways it's more natural to love a country like India that being angry with it. If people are frustrated, it's with certain aspects of india.
