Where would YOU live?
We're back from our Indian wedding extravaganza. We came, we saw, we fed a thousand people whom I'd never met before we sat down at the wedding altar. Ms Shaktipalooza is now my lovely Mrs.
Wahoo!! This was our first visit to India together. Getting hitched was the main reason for being there but we also had a chance to ponder the thought of actually making a permanent move. The verdict was yes, we're very keen to give it a shot. The next question is where? We have some (plenty of!) thoughts but I'm curious where others on this board would consider living permanently in India. ??? Last edited by Shaktipalooza : Mar 31st, 2005 at 04:10. |

If you are planning to work/have a job, then that would be a big driver, no?
If I move to India, it would be some scenic remote area away from the cities. |

I think I will live in Panaji. Or Margoa. That portugese classic feel looks amazing. Dunno... I'll see when I get there in two weeks!

Wow, the chance to live in India as self-employed - wow!
There are SO many choices! Ooty (in the south) is a hassle-free little 'city' with beautiful surrounds and reasonably good/quick access to places like Mysore, Bangalore, and Chennai. I think Nagpur is a city that has been able to "clean up" a bit from the average Indian clutter, without destroying the culture (as in you can still get food from street stalls etc.). Nice parks/lake. Hmm...so many choices...What aspects of India made you decide to go and live? we'll have to match your preferences to the location ![]() |

Good to see another Nagpur fan in here.
Self-employed is fine, but in what kind of field. Whether you want to get in cities/ big town or a hill station/tourist spot |

Hi my 1st time,
I would definately look at Chennai. I have visted the city a few times now and find it's got a great all round feel. Apart from the traffic! Plenty of new work chances and lot's of cultural/bars etc. Bhuttaji Wish I was going out |

Couple friends started this resort in the himalayas a few years ago. He's German and She's Indian...and I envy them. You could do live in someplace similar. (I know I have thought about it.....)

Nagpur
I recently visited Nagpur and it is an amazing change from 4-5 years ago. The main architect of the change is Mr Chandrashekhar who was municipal comissioner in Nagpur. Previously he was posted in Thane where too he managed to change the city. He is currently in-charge of the MUTP-II project which aims at improving Mumbai urban transport.
Nagpur has become a much nicer place to live, except the summers where temperatures of 50C are common. Unfortunately there isnt much of tourist interest to see there. Of course, doesnt yet compare to Pune, which still is the best place to live in Western India. |

I was going to say Madras (have not yet gotten around to switching to Chennai). I always lived near Elliots (Elliot's?) beach and had a wonderful childhood there...but just spoke to my mum and heard her water woes. So I'll wait and see if Jayalalitha ever does anything about it. All I know is I want to grow old in a sunny place, New York winters are too much for me.
