Where to live in Mumbai - Powai or Bandra?
I am in the process of moving to Mumbai. I will be working close to the interntational airport and am not sure whether to live in Bandra or Powai. I will get a company apartment so cost is not the main consideration. I will be moving with my family including my young children.
From looking at places i see that Powai is instantly more attractive as it is cleaner and less crowded. Bandra, however, has more facilities and more to do. It is also closer to the American school where my son will go to preschool. Any expats from Mumbai have any advice? |

As a longtime resident of Bandra, my vote naturally goes to the Queen of the suburbs.

If you are working close to the airport then Powai is the better option but if you want to stay in or near Mumbai then Bandra is where I'd stay!!! Recent advanced planning in Powai has made it very different from what it was a few years ago and hence it is like a mini city now where you can get anything and everything. Hope this helps.
Cheers, Aadil.

Aadil is correct when he calls Powai a mini-township.
Being an old Mumbaikar and having lived and spent my wasteful youth in and around Bandra I will recommend it highly. If Bandra is a bit too noisy/commercial then look at Khar which is the next suburb. Lots of high quality accomodation but less manic than Bandra. Hope that helps |

Go for powai
I would recommend actually living in Hiranandani at Powai. I grew up there and i personally beleive if you are looking for a close place to live near the airport, hiranandani gardens is an excellent option and don't see any negatives why you shouldn't, max 20-30 mins driving time with traffic. Plus hiranandani is loaded with amenities and you wont be short of A-Z. There is a brilliant supermarket and shopping complex., great roads, the best aparment complex in India(sorry to boast about but is a fact), thanx to the world famous "Hafiz Contractor", great lake, peace calm and quiet, good I.C.S.E. school if you have kids and options to cope up without having to learn hindi/marathi, great clubhouses for a workout and a great community( there are tons of americans living here). This place has never given be a chance to cuss about anything in years.
On the other end, Bandra is also a good option but forget the driving experience, if you live in mumbai you would know. Nothing else to say but best of luck and have a great stay wherever you wish too.. |

bandra! or like Khar maybe... you will easily find quiet lanes with quiet neighbourhoods in Bandra / Khar... and there is so much to do around there, and u are well placed for both the city and the suburbs... Powai is ok if you are going to be powai centric... other wise its a hard drive from anywhere... and the kids will have a long commute to the american school! Bandra!!
