UK Electrical in India
Can anyone confirm whether UK electrical appliances will work in India with a change of plug?

It's my understanding
that if you have the proper plug, and as long as your appliances can handle 220V you're fine. If appliances can't handle 220 - as mine didn't - you can buy a converter. I did that for my electronics, six months, no problems.

Dont bother to change the plug, you can buy for about 50/- an adaptor, round pin to UK, and 50/- is expensive!!!!!!!!!!

I bought a cheap worldwide adaptor from Boots that worked fine for my Ipod and various things. You can get more expensive adaptors with an extra prong which fit Indian sockets a bit better, which can help, but they all work the same.

The adapters you buy in India will fit the Indian sockets better than the 'International Adapters' which are too loose.
You could raid your grandfather's attic. Indian plugs/sockets are the the same as the ones UK used when I was a small child, before the square-pin plug was introduced. A five-amp round-pin plug attached to a modern 4-way trailing socket makes a very useful adapter for all those chargers and stuff!

You can get universal 4-way strips, but a light-weight UK one will be better. The 'universal' 4 ways that we have never seem perfect for anything... you have to move the plug just so and it works.
Bring your 4-way and attach an Indian plug. Get a 4-way with a fuse in it. Indian plugs aren't fused. |

But don't forget the voltage stabilisers - as has been mentioned many times on Indiamike.
