Teaching English In india
Hi all
Can anyone give information on teaching English in India I know of voluntary teaching in McLeod Ganj and in Calcutta. However are there any paying teaching posts in India? Im a university MSc graduate, have a TESOL certificate, experience teaching and about 3 years travelling in Inida under my belt. None of my time in India has been in a working capacity though Any advice or experiences anyone can share would be gratefully received Cheers Bryan |

Hi Bryan
Many of the ESL positions in India are in the voluntary sector. You could consider teaching English in high schools but such posts, especially in private schools, would not, strictly speaking involve ESL teaching. They would involve teaching literature and I don't know if this is what you have in mind. Currently, most of the paid ESL teaching is done in the Bangalore area to support the burgeoning call centre industry. The emphasis is on developing communication skills without the important body language that goes with normal face-to-face communication. Dave's ESL Cafe - try that in your search engine - has good up-to-date information on ESL teaching. |
