spas, wellness centra, salons

Hi there everybody,

I`m new to this forum, but I hope someone has an answer to my question.
I`ve searched for days now but I can`t find anything.

At this moment, I have an assigment for my university in The Netherlands (Europe).
My task is to find out information about spas, wellness centra, salons, and so on.

I already found a lot of info but some remain unclear .

- how many spas, salons, wellness centra are there in India? are there any statistics available or does someone know some more info about this?

- how many suppliers are there for all these salons, spas, wellness centra?

- in which city in India are the most spas, wellness centra, salons?

I really hope that someone can help me because i`m desperate . This assigment is for my graduation.

Thank you very much in advance!

Yours,

John

I have some info on the beauty industry but its outdated i.e made in 2004...il share some points though and hope it helps...

1. Estimated 61,000 salons win towns with population over 1 Million.

2. Over 50% are based in Metros such as Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata . The others are balance out between the mini-metros and the small towns.

3. Turnover of industry calculated between 1500-1800 crores.

4. The largest revenue generator was haircuts around 25-30%.

5. Growth of shops etc pegged at around 25% per year but revenues around 5% only.

i have some subjective notes as well which i can share if you dont already have these stats..

Hi John,

Found some interesting data at this address :
http://www.professionalbeauty-expo.c...x.aspx?page=30

The page dates back from 2007, so the data is probably 2006. Quotes from that page :
Quote:
Colour cosmetics, accounting for around US$60 million of the total market
The skin care market in India is about US$180 million
The size of the hair care market in India is about US$200 million
Herbal cosmetics segment in India, estimated at US$100 million
Quote:
It is estimated that the Indian beauty market is worth more than USD 1.5 billion and is rising at 25% p.a. - twice as fast as the US & Europe markets
Quote:
The fastest growing segment is color cosmetics accountable for around US$60 million of the total market. Nail enamel and lipstick account for about around 65% of the color segment. Lipstick sales accounts for nearly a third of the market at US$21 million, nail enamel US$23 million, skin care market in India is appox. US$180 million, hair care market in India is about US$200 million.
Also found a fascinating article here : http://www.indiatogether.org/manushi...145/lovely.htm
This is more a historical / sociological / marketing approach. It looks at the language used to describe products, the marketing techniques, penetration of international brands, the men / women question...

Also, you may perhaps check this link :
http://www.valuenotes.biz/research/samplereports.asp
You'll be able to download a PDF report on that page.
The study dates back from 2004, so it may well be the same data as Puchoo's.

Hope this helps. Best wishes for your graduation.

You're welcome, glad it helped
Not sure what your field of study is, but a tip just in case. When you look for market data, a good place to search is market fairs, business conventions, expos, etc. Look hard into the fairs' websites. There usually is some free, recent business data lying around.
Let us know how it went !

idd i noticed that too
but the problem is that they don`t have time for helping students while they are always busy with arranging new exhibitions. I also found an organisation that studies consumers paterns such as Spa usage behaviour, Profile of consumers, No. of visits / frequency, and so on. Although she found the subject very interesting, unfortunately they didn`t have any info about this branche in India.

After a weekend of relaxation, I made a fresh start this morning

Which spas and salons are very well known in India?
ive heard of a company called Kaya Skin Clinics. It has more then 14 establishments. I think that`s a large player on the field. Doen anyone know another big player?
