Plan D is carrying a small baby (borrowed for the day) and chasing foreigners around shopping areas trying to get dollars and pounds out of them...

someone should start a new thread and request that the only people that post are the persons who are or have firm game plan on how they will support themselves after early retirement.

all these off topic side issues serve no one.

If you want to start your own website and impose rigid rules like this, be my guest, but that's just not likely to work here.

And, h-m-m ... based on at least one of your earlier posts, part of your "firm game plan" seems to be "get my parents to subsidize it." I wonder how many people here found that proposed strategy useful?

Hey, if I am not allowed to go offtopic even a little bit, I would like to (going offtopic now) submit my resignation.

and indignation, too.

whatever...

this has to be THE most important topic to long haul travelers and you act like its poop on your shoe.

dzi: i have less than negative 3 motivation to build my own site. mike has done a stellar job here. i just thought the thread deserved a bit of clear thinking as the subject appears to be about money

Nature of the site, Monk, which as a long-standing member you should very well know.

So... with a joke and a laugh (which are the best things for stimulating the brain) we continue...

Just because I joke about something does not mean I don't take it seriously!

A short and quick answer to how to retire and live off interest in India is difficult in any case because there are so many variables, some of which are

-taxation laws will differ across the wide spectrum of IM members
-the fact that foreigners and NRI members will be barred
from most small savings investments, which, till recently gave
the highest debt returns
-different rules for foreigners, NRI's and resident Indians wrt
property and stockmarkets.
-individual considerations: some will have social security, medical benefits, some will have comfort levels in keeping their savings in their own countries, (or China!)

Perhaps it is wiser to see the expense side of the equation, factor in inflation, and leave it to the individual as to how to get there.
