I am a citizen of USA living in India since 2005, Kerala at the moment, Planning to stay in Nagaland for another two years. What do I do now ? whom to contact? And any permits required to stay in Nagaland for this duration before I leave kerala. I am also planning to apply for PIO. Is it possible to apply that from Nagaland after I land there ? My residential permit in India expires on 01/02/2010. Please help me with your suggestions. Thank you.

Here is what the law states;


ENTRY FORMALITIES :

1.PAP. Protected Area Permit. For Foreign Tourist is required permit for a Nagaland, period of 10 day. Extendable.PAP. Permit apply through recognized register local Tour Operator/Travel Agent. Maximum 04 person. If less than 04 person should be obtain (RAP) Restricted Area Permit from Ministry of Tourism Govt. of India, New Delhi. Contact us 07 weeks in advance, after obtaining India visa, to arrange for the permits. Please send Xerox copy of passport and visa by internet scan or post, which can process for permit.

2. ILP. Inner Line Permit. For Indian Tourist is required permit for period of 15 days. Please send you full address with any I card, Driving, Election Card.


Unless you have a work permit with the innerline permit, or are married to a person from Nagaland. Its illegal to enter the state as with most Northeastern States. Its really hard to get a tourist permit if there is just one person. If your working there, your employer will help you get this permission. Nagaland is a Restricted area, even Indian Citazens need a permit to enter.

Thank you for your reply. In my case both my parents are Indian. My father from Kerala and Mom from Nagaland.And presently both my parents are located in Nagaland. How do I go from here...?If I want to live there for 2 years or more
