Replacing a missing driver’s license

My driver’s license went missing. I usually keep it in the sunglass holder of the car because it is a booklet form and won’t fit properly in my wallet. Unfortunately, in the summer heat, the snap came off. So I took it inside to re-affix the snap and it went missing. I’ve searched high and low for it. I expect it to turn up sometime years from now.

In the meantime, I need a DL; so i need to replace my it. Does anyone know what the process is? I presume that some groveling to the RTO (and a facilitation fee ) will be involved, but I have no idea what paperwork I need to fill out.

Are you talking about the Indian Driver's licence Cayle? If so, do you have a photocopy of it? That would be a big help in replacing it. If not, yes go to the RTO. You will get all your paperwork there. Also take several passport photos with you, and the documents you needed for getting it in the first place if you haven't got a photocopy of the missing licence.

Thanks Aishah. Yeah, it is the one that says "Indian union, State of Karnataka". I have a photocopy of the original, so much less pain should be involved than otherwise. I'll just have to figure out which form I have to fill out then.

If the office is like the one here, you won't have to 'figure out'. They do it for you, and also outside is a line of men in little grass hut things who fill the forms out as well! Has your state got an online site where you can print out a form? Ours doesn't, but Australia has, when I had to renew my Oz one a few years back when it got stolen.
Here though, the paper is like something in the 1940's, very poor quality, and the office itself seems to have shelves for a filing system of very dusty folders thrown all over the place! However, it all functions along, and driver licences etc. get produced in the end!
Good that you have a photocopy - so do I of mine! That was the first I did when I got it laminated (the machine for laminating in the RTO office had broken down, so they gave me the licence with the plastic stuff for laminating, and I went and got it done out in the market!) It helps if anything happens to it, and you lose it.
Mr K has lost his licence twice in the time I've been here, and there's no drama replacing it. Just those photos needed.

Aishah's got the replacement covered, I just wanted to point out that your old license will turn up the day after you get your new one!

Don't these things happen, Haylo! Just the other day I misplaced a cheap watch (300rupee one) which I rather liked. I have hunted high and low, then finally yesterday bought the replacement same price, and I still have in the back of my mind the original is going to turn up anyday now!
