Registration??
I know this will have been asked before - but when I search for 'registration' I seem to hit every thread ever posted ....
I am going to Mumbai next week on a 1 year visa - and I understand I have to register within 14 days? Register with who? Need any documents? Any fees? Thanks for any help. |

Hi there!
You have to register with the FRO (foreign registration officer). In Mumbai I dont know where this is, but locally for me it's at the District Police Station. The gent that deals with Passport applications there does it. Could be it's the same "fellow" at the District Police Station in Mumbai. You'll need three copies of the visa and the photo/number page of your passport and I've forgotten what else now, but someone here will be able to tell you what else - or do a search: Foreign Registration Office Mumbai on the Internet. Then you'll probably get the whole kitandkiboodle! ![]() |

The Indian Immigration Dept Website will have the address of the FRROs. In small towns it will be the police station: in major cities it will be a big govt office.
What kind of visa will you have? Check the same site for the registration requirements. You may have to register within 14 days, or possibly not until 180 days is nearly up. Whether you have to register or not it can be to your advantage to do so (do not let them put you off!). That piece of paper allows you to easily open a bank account, buy a vehicle, get a driving licence etc. |

In mumbai itFRRO is near VT station at the back of St Xaviers
The office has just gone all modern but the systems are a little slow still. If you can have a company person assist it is worth it!! Go when it opens 10am and be prepared for a wait take a good book packed lunch and a bedding roll - no sorry just joking the good book is a must and a little snack and a drink may be useful I think you can still pick up the forms and take them away and fill them in and come back with all the docs the next day or better still get someone to do all the running around and then just present yourselves with all the paperwork |

For FRO registration for employment visa, your company in India should normally be the one helping you do that. That's because you will need some documents from them too. Contact your admin. department - it's part of their job to do so.
