Powai Expats?

Hi All,

My husband & I are relatively new to India & are currently living in Powai. I'm an Aussie, hubby is Malaysian were both in our 30's (no kids). I'm just wondering if there is a large expat community here in Powai or any social clubs as we would love to meet some new people. If anyone could point us in the right direction it would be muchly appreciated.

Cheers

There are quite a few expats in Powai for sure, but not sure about clubs etc.. one option open to you is visit the HAIKO mall at Hiranandani Powai, you will surely meet few expats, strike a conversation to learn more.

I myself am in process of shifting to powai next week.

Cheers

Amar

I believe there are also Powai meetups, which are announced through the yahoo bombayexpats forum (you have to sign up to become a member).
Good Luck!

Lots of expats in Powai, but to be honoust I know mainly the ones with small children. There is a Powai coffee group that regularly meets in the morning, however, I don't have the details. If you can't find out, PM me, I will probably be able to find it out for you.

There are no specific clubs in Powai, most people join the club at the Renaissance, or, increasingly, Waterstones club. We are members at Waterstones, lot of their members are from Powai, so you will meet lot's of people by joining.

And yes, just speaking to people in Haiko might help, it's what I did when I just arrived (not that many expats back then).

Gizmo, Honeysol has moved recently with her husband and they are living in Powai, you might want to send her a PM. I met a fair few South Africans the other day who stay there, so its only a matter of time before you bump into someone

Hi Nice to see so many Powai Expats, over here..!! Even I stay at powai, and here we have one group called powai Pals, from last 4 yrs we celebrate Powai Pals anniversary, we go for picnics tours, we also do some social works like blood donation, we got one common t-shirt with our logo called powai Pals .. i have designed that one , our group name also came in local Powai News paper called Powai Planet!.. and the best part is we started this group first online in Orkut.. and then we all started meeting every 2 weeks or something!

If anyone wish to join Most welcome!! .. Keep ROcking and writing about powai Exp!!

Good to read about expats in Hiranandani Powai area. I will be moving there with my girlfriend in 2 weeks time (now staying elsewhere in Mumbai in a hotel). Still (ok, only been here 6 days) feel like a total stranger here, not seen many non-natives here except in the hotel. Hope to meet some you Powais in the near future.

Any tips for watching / enjoying Holi in that area?

Greetings,
Martijn

Welcome Martijn - can't answer on the "Holi" question - this is my first one, and have been advised to stay a little bit clear - told the boys can get a bit - rambunctious esp: towards western women .... so I have been told.

My building appears to be holding a separate thing for women?? will have to look into it.

Do you or your girlfriend have blond hair? If so have been advised to cover it, as the dyes used for Holi, are pretty stringent.

Looking forward to having you out this direction - let me know if you and / or your girlfriend need some directions for groceries etc. etc etc

All the best.

Hi HONeYSOL,

I was advised the same, also because of the boys' behavious but also because of the chemicals in de colorings that will be thrown. My girlfriend has blond hair, fair skin, so it is a good advise about covering it up.

We could defenitly use some directions, we still feel like strangers and/or guests (also because we are still in a mega posh hotel). So if you could .. we'd appreciate it! I think we'll be moving in 1,5 weeks.

Greetings & thanks!

Hello Again Fellow Powaiians,

Apologies for neglecting the thread I started! I didn't have the notifications on so thought no one was replying.

Anyway seeing there were no real expat groups in there area I started my own

A group of us aged between 20 - 40 (couples & singles with no kids) usually get together a couple of times a week for dinner Sunday Brunch, go karting, movies, etc.

Most of our get togethers take place at short notice but our next planned event is a Sunday Brunch at the Renaissance Hotel on 10th May.

If your interested in joining us for brunch & meeting some new faces or receiving my email updates when ever we have something planned please PM me or leave a reply here with your email address so I can add you to my email group.

Cheers
