Need stable broadband+close to kitesurf beach in goa
Hi all!
I want to try living in india for the winter...I don't feel upto another winter in Sweden... I have travelled alot but I have never been to India so it's time to try something new. From reading in this forum, I think Goa would be a good starting place for me. I run an online business so I need a really stable broadband connection. I am also very much into kite surfing so if anyone knows of somewhere in Goa where this can be combined I would be very happy to hear from you! Best, Ed |

Compared to Europe, the broadband in India may be a disappointment. My experience is with Delhi & Bangalore, but both speed and reliability, though improving, can still be dicey.
Generally, Airtel is considered the best provider in India. There are several threads about service in various cities. Lastly, assuming you'll be traveling on a tourist visa, are you clear about the rules and limits on working while there? Using a laptop for an online business is probably not a high-risk situation, but a few searches on the IM site will turn up lots of information. Part 2: Here's one link -- if BSNL is the only option I would be even less positive about the speed and reliability: Broadband Goa

Forget what you consider to be broadband. It does not exist here!

Goa, broadband, & kiteboarding
It was great to see your recent post. I have some experience here. I work for a software company in USA, however my work is remote, from home. Because I work at home, I can live anywhere and perform my work. I do live in India about 6mo. of the year. I have used both Airtel and BSNL connections. Both are sufficient for my work. My work is dependent on a stable connection and voice, phone, as my phone is VOIP. (Not skype). So quality is important to me. Both these connections are fine for this.
I have recently taken up kiteboarding and plan to go to Goa for a few weeks. I am also trying to find a place to stay, guesthouse or other with either BSNL Dataone or Airtel DSL. (I travel with wifi router if I need to connect it to existing internet). Oh, since we are looking for the same thing, perhaps a guest house with separate rooms on long term rental? I require broadband and want to be close to kiteboarding. |

Airtel does not provide DSL services in Goa. BSNL DSL is available but very slow. The cheap guesthouses in Goa do not have any broadband connectivity.
