My kid is US citizen.. School issues?

We are Indian citizen. My kid is a US citizen by birth and she now hold PIO card which is valid for 15 years.
At present she is studying in a school in Mumbai, on issues.
We are trying to see if we can send her to a boarding school in Panchgani. I called a very reputed school there for her admission.
But the school said they don't take foreign nationals. I had high hopes for my daughter which are now it seems going to be shattered.

Has anyone encountered such situation before? Since it was a phone call, I didn't want to argue over the phone on the reason why they don't admin non-Indian citizen. Should I go there personally to see if I can convince them? Any pointers anyone can give me in that regards? Any formalities / special visa my kid needs for schooling to study in India? Will she have issues for her collage admission as well later for collage in India?

More Info.. Yes we are Indian, my kid is just like any other Indian kid. We moved to India when she was 3. All her schooling upto now was done here in India. She is 7 now and goes to 3rd standard. She has no american accent whatsoever. In nutshell she is american only by birth, otherwise she is a pure Indian.

Does the kid look Indian and speak Maharathi or Hindi? Then it should be no problem.... Otherwise forget about the school, it must be crap anyways!

So, why mention it at all? Most schools ask for a birth certificate or just DOB? Leave it blank or explain it away.
