Musicians in Delhi
I arrived in Delhi a few weeks ago. I'm looking to put a band together. I know there is not much of a live scene (in the western sense at least), but I don't see that this should be a huge obstacle to putting together an exciting, accesible but not particularly 'mainstream' outfit ie. not bryan adams style soft rock or covers.
I have written music for several theatre productions (and acted too, but this will be the subject of my next thread) and for many years wrote music for and played piano in a 10 piece London based, punky kind of psychedelic groove type band with classical bits. I am currently learning sitar and would like to fuse some Indian elements (not necessarily sitar though), without coming accross at all as a 'world music' type of group. Ultimately I would be looking for good players of drums, bass, guitar and am open to other instrumentation (have worked with strings/flutes in the past). Initially I would like to find a strong vocalist with good stage presence or who thinks they would have good stage presence (any country, although an Indian who can sing in English or Hindi would be great) female or male, preferably with lyric writing ability, although this is not essential as I work with a writer based in England. The guitarist needs to be experienced, can play good rythmn, read charts be open to experimentation and ..have an electric guitar. Funky drummer (real kit) and bassist needed too. I do feel quite disadvantaged not knowing the city very well, where to look for rehearsal rooms with PAs (if such things exist). If any of you guys fit any of the above categories or who know someone does, or if you have any suggestions I would be truly grateful. There don't appear to be any musician noticeboards in music shops, or in any classified sections of newspapers. If anyone can point me in the right direction I will see to it that their names will appear on all guest lists for future gigs (if it is your kind of thing of course). Many thanks Stefan |

Musicians Galore
Try a magazine called RSJ short for Rock Street Journal. Also, visits and calls to NSD short for National School of Drama, Delhi School of Music at Delhi Univ. North Campus should solve the problem. Local rock band PARIKRAMA has a music school in Delhi. So, a little research would go a long way. ![]() |

Thanks a lot. I will certainly pursue these avenues maybe see if parikrama are not indisposed to dispensing some advise also, you are a bit of a muso type yourself no?
I haven't seen the magazine you suggested maybe Musicworld stock it? Cheers again..Stef |
