| Based in Delhi Hi everyone,I've been working as a guide/group leader in mostly North India for the past 8 months, based in Delhi in between trips, and have found it hard to meet people outside of the tourist industry. Maybe someone who can give me tips on things like where to get a decent haircut in New Delhi and whom I could hang out with in my time off?? Any others who have made their home here and have some coping tips? Would love to hear from you if this is you? Last edited by Clare Turland; Mar 24th, 2005 at 19:30.. |

| Ladies&Gentleman, Is Delhi so bad?. What a shame?. You should move to Bombay, Bandra to be precise, as IndianWorker is won't to say. I assume, you have ruled out internet. Then, I guess, work place, friend's friends, friend's relatives and their friend's and relatives etc. However, bars, clubs etc, may not be a consistent solution. Aso for your other question, I know this french hair stylist who is very popular among Delhi girls. I believe he is in new friend's colony. Can't search right now. Also, Check out the threads on IM meetups in Delhi. Can't believe it would be so tough for you . |

| Can only speak generically.. I - those who are educated beyond a certain point will be shy, intimidated or a mix of these because of all the harassment suite reports in the news papers. Also it is mostly assumed that western women have very stern or say strong personalities... (these guys are the type least likely to cause harassment though...) II - those who are after your money or other things... (avoid them, how to identify ... this will be your judgement call) Your best bet are type I's who have had a certain exposure in international work places. Gosh... why am I not in Delhi atm... -

| Clare, Just wanted to reply to your thread. I arrived in Delhi 4 weeks ago and have been finding it quite tough going in regards to many things. Luckily went on this site and have met up with a few people from Indiamike which is great but otherwise have found things slow going. The other girls in the office seem nice but have never asked me out for a drink/coffee or anything and there does not seem to be many social gatherings at work. Kaushiks, can I have the hairdresser's details, have visited 3 in Delhi so far and been disappointed with all of them and trying to find a good hairdresser. If you fancy meeting up PM me and perhaps we could arrange something. Best wishes,

| Member..... | Hi Clare, It's not so difficult to meet people if you make friends with someone. After that you'll see a whole new world opening out. Being a foreigner does not really matter. I met an Italian guy at a motorcycle repair shop two years ago, and we have become very good friends since then. So you see, if you meet and start interacting with people, your social circle will increase steadily. As for the hairdresser, I'll check with my friends and get back to you. BTW what are you up to these days? If you need any further help, please feel free to email me at boracho@rediffmail.com |
