Manali Himachal Pradesh
Manali Himachal Pradesh
Hi Indiamike,
I am thinking of moving to Manali (North India) and I have a few questions.
Can one live on 1,200 euro a year there. That is 100 euro per month which works out at 6,688 Rupi per month. I live quite basically and do not have much need fot luxury items. Eat,sleep and some entertainment. Would I have a reasonable standard of living ?
Also what are the requirements regarding the 'Foreigners Regional Registration office' (FRRO). Income, passport, stay etc.
Is there work there teaching English ?
Regards,
Stephens..

Hi,
The visa I am applying for is 'I don't know' as yet. Will be going to the embassy later on this week and get more information. Getting a tourist visa is no problem I just want more information so I can make a better informed decission in my circumstances.
As for the drinking of alcohol between 21 and 25. I thing one would have more than enought to do if one was married. I certainly did. Besides your not missing much. Better using the mind as the drug..
Best,
Stephens..

A tourist visa will enable to you to stay in India for only 180 days. After that you will have to stay out of India for 2 months and then you can come back to India for another stint of 180 days.
Aarosh,
Yes 180 days I read that over the net. Thats no good to me. However, may go over for a month and check out the situation for myself (ask around etc). Also see if I want to stay there. It was in 1992 I was last there. I'm sure things have changed. I know 1,700 Rupi per week is very slim/tight for rent per month and food in the restraunt or cooking in the apartment if the facilities are there.
I'm not a millionair yet. But am working on it like everyone else..Ha Ha.

The 180 days is not a joke! Unless you are prepared to spend two months out of India every six months, which would most likely eat a hole in your self-imposed budget, you will have a problem with paperwork.
Are you really planning to teach English? Better use spell-check then.
You are in need of it.

Living in Manali
Hi there, I was in Manali for about a month in October/ November 2011. I could give you a basic idea of what expenses are like now. For instance old Manali is cheaper for lodging. I paid about Rupees 4000 a month for a room with basic amenities (light bulbs) etc. The room was clean but no TV or any other electricals.
I ate outside at a local dhaba ( small local restaurant) and paid Rupees 50 for each meal. Ofcourse if you have your own kitchen you an expect to save more money there. The rest depends on your requirements like booze or luxury items.

Thanks for the reply. I know my spelling is atrocious. My apologies, I always have a trusted dictionary at hand and spellcheck is a godsend. Teaching English prehaps but don't want the guff that goes with it. My income at the moment won't allow me to reside there for any long length of time. It was worth my while to inquire the possibilities before making any moves and sitting in a plane for 12 hours and another 12 coming back.
