Mailing Prescription Drugs To India, Anyone done it?

need some perscription medicine mailed to me in India. Does anyone know the best way to go about doing it? I will be sending it from the US. Will there be problems at Indian Customs? I understand it's probably cheaper to get in India.....it's just my insurance covers me in the US....but not in India.

Thanks

I have no idea about customs and prescription drugs because I buy all my drugs in India.

The chances are the the drugs you send from the US will be made in India anyway!

I would find out the cost of the drugs in India - they may be cheaper than the postage cost.

The last time my wife went to hospital in India, one hour with the doctor and nurses, treatment and 3 prescriptions cost less than US $3.00. It may not be worth the hassle of going through your insurance company.

Our CEO ran out of his heart medication and had to have it couriered to him in India - ASAP. He told his wife to courier the pills and declare the true value which was $90.00 - you guessed it - customs levied $90.00 duty on the package. He went ballistic!

So with that in mind - I would suggest declaring it at a minimal value.

first I've heard of the pharma going the other way. I have an in-law with all sorts of heart probs, and have always managed to get his stuff there. If you have the medical names (not the brand names), you could ask someone in Ma India if they are available, or you could go to the manufacturers website and sak.

Good luck!

I need Isotretinoin or Accutane/Soret tablets...the box says they are made in India, but they cost $271 USD for a months supply in the States. Any idea what I could get them for in India? Will I need a perscription?

Where are you now? Where are you going? Your "location" says Mumbai, or is that where you're headed? Someone can easily ask for you. I'm in Goa.

Now I am in the U.S., but I work in Mumbai....I can't imagine the prices being too different between Mumbai and Goa...if you wouldn't mind inquiring for me

I return on May 9th.

OK. I'm going to my pharmacist tomorrow to pick up my "shopping list" as I call it.

Are you sure? as long as you have a prescription from a US doctor and the indian pharmacy charges less than the US rates, most insurance companies will reimburse you for the ful amount. However, you will have to pay for it first and then submit a reimbursement request later.

Note down the SALT of the medicine and get it in INDIA-this is better way and further more-after knowing the salt of medicine-discuss with any good M.D doctor in INDIA and he can tell you which good brand is availble in market !!

Still you want to get it from abroad-as said by a pal...declare less but you are not sure,if it reaches you because medicine is somewhat HOT topic with customs !!

The pharmacist says they have just come down in price. Previously around 600/650, now Rs.302/- for a strip of 10 20mg. tablets.

Quite right in most cases, BUT in Canada after 6 months the insurance coverage generally will not continue, because the insurance companies in Canada provide coverage keeping one eye on the government funded OHIP (Ontario Health Insurance Plan).

The insurance premiums are caculated based on OHIP covering some of the costs....and if one is six months out of the country the OHIP coverage ceases, and, by and large, so does the private coverage.

But, better to check these things with own inurance company, of course.
