I don't think that the likes of BMW, Mercedes, Audi manufacture cars here --- not a big enough market. Some may be partly finished, and are certainly likely to be modified for India.

Bombay, are you moving your full household furniture here? The standard advice is: you can furnish your new place for the cost of shipping your furniture. However I still did it. The person who arranged it was very good, but has moved on to a different company. I can find out for you where they are now net week, if you like. The British end, packing and despatch, was done by a company called 360-degree

Granted Nick, they are probably "assembled" in India. I believe that BMW have a plant in Chennai. TeamBHP should have some info.

I think there was a Mercedes assembly plant near the TATA plant in Pune. They assemble SKD units there.

As an aside: TATA has a long relationship with Mercedes Benz. Old timers in TN truck market still refer to TATA trucks as Benz trucks.

Thanks mate, The company is paying for all the shipping and accomadation, schooling, etc.
its just that i have a nice car and bike which i would love to use in india. Do i have to pay duty or what? even though im working and not inporting for resale?
Who would know ?

Yes, you'll have to pay a lot of duty.

Bombay..I would advice against it..you car and bike might be nice..however

1. You might not get proper spares and mechanics to take care of them.

2. The road conditions might not be adequate for them, secondly you might not even be able to enjoy a proper ride.

3. Quality of fuel is always doubtful here. Cars sold in India are 'adaptable' to bad fuel, but your car might not react well to it.
