nehalkind:
your child is just in kg??? for all you know, by the time s/he is 15, there maybe different board exams [ should we be so lucky ]anyways - here it is IMO: ICSC CBSE or any state board exams: mug cram mug mug mug cram cram cram mug mug mug tuitions tutorials coaching tuitions tutorials coaching [ that about sums it up for any of them boards ] IGCSE yes - much more expensive - really expensive, as i think you have to pay for each subject that one is appearing for. it is a typical belief that only kids who are going for higher studies in the west opt for this board - not true. this board is recognized by any of the universities/colleges in india. moreover than not - alternative schools opt for this board. igcse is a board that grades you on project work - which involves thinking/research/collating info [ unheard of the regular school boards ] the child is graded throughout the year - there are certain criteria which i am not familiar with - but there is no such pressure as a FINAL EXAM. usually - in the process, children are able to distinguish their strengths and potential which guides them [usually] in their eventual vocation. besides - one has to, irrelevant of which board, take tutorials before appearing for IIT IIM entrance exams. so why put your kid through so much of trauma before that? my blu-tacked 50paisa bit! :brishti |

i'd suggest you visit the school/s that you have narrowed down with the IGCSE syllabus. talk to the administration about the syllabus/curriculum. compare it with the regular schools. most schools with the ICSE/CBSE boards will have a similar curriculum. let schooling be a place of learning not a chore for the kid/s. as for the IIM's and IIT's - heck - there are no guarantees no matter what you do... is there? :brishti |

well from personal experience i have completed my IGCSE and my sister were doing ICSE it seems that the latter is more oriented towards just cramming your head with facts and numbers, however IGCSE is more oriented towards project work and practical application which is a trait that would better help ur children cope with today's fast paced world. i would recommend enrolling them for IGCSE, but its your call

Almost all tests are based on the CBSE curriculum of a P-C-M or a P-C-B schematic (if opting for Engg or Med). The CBSE prepares you better for these. There are a lot of opinions about which form makes the better 'learner/researchr' etc. But by the time a kid is in HSE, he has gone thru all the 'learning process requirements'. Post HSE, Engg colleges especially make you go through a lot of rigor, so it is better that one follows the CBSE early on.
A caveat though - Go through a Cl 11 text book and see if your kid can cope. There is a major difference in volume to be handled between A levels and HSE. |
