I want a farmhouse in India....can't decide where
I'm of Indian origin but have no real roots here so I'm not attached to any particular region.
I have three criteria (in order of importance) for selecting a location for my farmhouse: * Breath-taking natural beauty, sea/river/mountain/valley etc. * Reasonably close to civilization (not more than 1 hour from basic medical care and 6 hours by car from an urban center). I would prefer companionable neighbors, if at all. * Land and water that can support basic grains (millets, wheat, nothing thirsty like rice for example) and vegetables for a small family. Looking for 3 - 5 acres, budget is 1.5 - 2 Crores for the land... All suggestions would be welcome! |

Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh meet your criteria. But both do not allow non state residents to have farming land.
J&K is off limits. You should think somewhere in Southern States !

Despite difficulties for foreigners, people with PIO cards can buy in Goa and there are lots beautiful places, meeting all your criteria easily.

Coastal areas for me would not be a sensible long term investment - think about environment!!!

How about Chickmagular or Mercara in Karnataka ?
Lovely coffee estates and plenty of medical facelities and also major cities like Bangalore / Hassan / Mysore are all with in 2-5hours drive. Chickmagular also has some stinking rich planters and Planters club. With that kind of money, you will easily get atleast 20 to 100 acres of coffee plantations depending on the area. It all depends upon how far is it from road / water etc. But, I am not sure if a person who is not a farmer or belong to farmer family (you might need phani) can buy agricultural land. But some people buy it in the name of a company....something like that. Good auditors can guide you in regard to this. Cheers! |
