I have a job in Mumbai!
Hello all,
The last few weeks have been nothing short of insane. I decided, along with my optimistic father-in-law (who works in the UAE), that I should stay with his mother and his sister in their home in the Cuffe Pared area, as it would allow us the chance to meet. They were little aware how serious my relationship with the granddaughter had become, and I found myself thrust into a very uncomfortable position. I constantly heard them bemoaning my fiancee and her father about "dishonoring the family" and "ruining their reputation"- in short, it was an ugly scene. I decided to take matters into my own hands and shifted to a hotel in the Fort area, where I went about the interview process. Luckily, Rediff.com has offered me a position in their editorial staff, and though it only pays around 6 laks a year, I think it is a great opportunity for a 22 year old fresh out of university. Rediff is one of the fastest growing companies in India and I know I'll have the chance to forge a brilliant career. I'm thrilled at the chance to stay and work in Mumbai! Unfortunately, I have to fly back to New York in order to properly secure my employment visa, and will hopefully be back by the second week of March to begin work. All in all, I'm very excited and ready to take the next step in my life! Thanks to everyone on here for providing so much information; the cumulative effects of reading all the stories posted truly prepared me for the insanity I've faced. I've ridden trains from Churchgate to Andheri, taken buses all over the city, and in general, explored a side of life I've never seen before. So, just thought I'd let everyone know, there's another India-convert in your midst. A twenty two year old Ameriacn moving to India for work, how unlikely would this have been even ten years ago? Wish me luck!
