How to cope with adapting to India?

I've been offered a job in Delhi, but wonder if I can cope with it since I'm used to a society that works effectively and is generally quite reliable and professional. How to cope with power/water shortages on a daily basis and the high crime rate?

People who live there... what do you say? Is it worth it?

Probably better to remain in Neverland, if you have trouble coping!

You are obviously not very adventurous. How do you cope with other "problems" in life?

Power/water shortages? Get a generator and a water pump
Crime? Put bars on your windows and doors, stay inside and don't commit any.

Considering that I can almost live like a King on quarter of the salary thats paid to an American barring apart the teeny weeny nuisances that probably are there in every country I guess it would be worth it for me.

For you I doubt it.

If anything, living in India should help build character. Give the prospective job a shot. If it doesn't work out, you can always go back

I visit this site for information once in awhile as I'm going to India for the first time in March. It seems to me that everytime someone says anything remotely negative about India about 30 people jump on him/her berateing and insulting them, its pretty pathetic. I'm sure India is a great place, which I'm about to find out, but I'm also sure its not as perfect as most of you make it out to be, nowhere in the world is!
