How much is enough? (to live on)

Is $1100 canadian (maybe equal to $800 US) enough to live on in India, if I rent a room or apartment on a monthly basis? No booze or other vices, but I desire clean, fairly comfortable digs. I could sart getting a little pension next year, and I want out of the rat-race.

that is around Rp35-40k per month which will permit a fairly nice living standard unless you want to live a western lifestyle in one of the big cities. In many places, it would be possible to get by quite comfortably on half of that.

Any preference on where you want to live ? Depending on that you can live great from half of it downwards....

Or you can even move around trying out at various places before deciding on the best option.

i am in a ladies' hostel in a very good part of bhopal, and it costs me about $130 a month, including one meal a day. also they clean the place and wash my clothes...and medicine is cheap.

the question is how do you get permission to stay permanently?

it's a dream come true...and many levels of accommodations and comfort are available.
