depends on a lot of factors which you have not mentioned - tonnage, number of hours daily, which city etc etc...but if one was to put a min cost i would peg it at about 1500 INR per month....

Where in India?
Big place, wide range of temperatures. Even the peak summer temperature will be very different from place to place. Also those in very humid areas will feel the need of AC perhaps more than those in dry-heat areas. When, of course, also makes a difference, and who is pretty important too. If someone comes to Chennai from London in December, they will be steaming; I won't be bothering with the AC, and many local people will be wearing woolly hats and scarves!

For Chennai , I could provide the actual figures from my experience. And Whatever Puchoo & Nick Said is true and that matters.
Usign A/C Daily around 7 hours @ 23 Degree Celcius with Whirlpool 1.5 Tonne Window A/c Costed us around 1000 Rs /month (In the Months of March or April with 38 Degree Celcius + outside) Points to note : 1) Our Own House (This is important as for Rented House OWner Might add-on whatever he wants) 2) Ground Floor 3)Lot of Trees Around Hope this helps. |

Hmmmm Scandojazzbuff.... I approximated for A/C only and overall the Electricity bill will be around 1500 to 1600 and in Peak Summers(Read May Month) , it went around even 2200 (Overall, Only Once and My mother Started telling, See this is why I told you not to buy A/C )... I suppose Tamilnadu has the Lowest Tariff for Elecricity in India (Atleast I can say compared to Delhi , Gurgaon, Mysore & AP )...
One of the Advantages being in Chennai ! ![]() |

There are many advantages, although they do tend to be less evident from mid-April to mid-June!
Yesterday Mrs N AC-ed the temperature in the living room down to 27. I complained bitterly, turned off the AC, and wrapped myself in a shawl. She went and turned on the AC in another room ![]() |

running one 1.5 ton a/c for 7 hrs a day should cost you around Rs. 1200-1500 a month depending on various factors

as per my knowledge, a 1.5 ton AC would consume around 1.5 electrical units in an hour...that means around 10 units in 7 hours...
300 units in a month, and now multiply that with the cost of electrical unit where you live and you will get the approx figure.. |
