Housing in Mumbai

Hello,

I'm moving to Mumbai in the next few weeks (as opposed to Delhi, which is where I thought I'd be). Anyway, I'm looking for corporate housing in/around Worli and Peddar Rd. If you have any suggestions for real estate brokers, particularly ones you've dealt with and had a positive experience with, pls. let me know.

Thanks.

That is the most expensive area in India and maybe in the whole of Asia to live in. A 2 bedroom apartment should cost you Rs 100,000/month. If your company is paying then I guess it is OK.

GoanCanuck you forgot to mention a hefty deposit equalling three or four years' rent over and above the rent.

Yes a big deposit will have to be paid as well. So if a person wants to rent the apartment for 1 year he will have to pay Rs 1,200,000 as a deposit in advance!!! San Francisco is cheaper.

thanks.. i actually had a brief look around last week, and paid a visit to the Taj Wellington.. sure is very nice, but the staff told me they are not sure about the availability of a 1BHK apartment for my needs, until a few weeks later... at the moment, they are full unless tenants decide not to renew the lease...

also took a look at Grand Hyatt residences, and couple of the hotel suites for long-stayers at Hilton, Oberoi and ITC Grand Central...

saw some nice apartments by the seaside in Bandra area when i was driving around... but figured i'll need a local real estate broker to show me the available places around there...

most important for my requirements are safe neighborhood and relatively new building/facility... appreciate any suggestions you guys might have.. thanks!

The only other high quality service apartment I know of is the Rennaisance at Powai (which is a treck from downtown or even Bandra/Kurla).

so does anyone know of a good real estate broker to introduce, and can bring me to view suitable apartments around Bandra area?

spoke to a relocation agent, who wanted to charge me US$1000 just to bring me around for a couple of days to view properties, even if i don't decide to take up any properties introduced by him... on top of that, i'd still have to pay the real estate agent fee of around 1mth's rent if i do decide to take the apartment... quite a ripoff i'd say...

yeah, charging just to show me around is a total ripoff... i'm sure other relocation agents or real estate brokers show prospective tenants around with no obligations...

but damn right.. this is BIG business!
