Hotel Registration for Resident Aliens
Hotel Registration for Resident Aliens
My husband is a US citizen (PIO) and we live in India. We are traveling north for a couple of weeks. When we came as tourists, he had to show is passport everytime we stayed in a hotel.
Now that he has registered with the FRRO and has a residence permit, is that enough, when booking into a hotel, or does he need to continue carryng his passport and PIO card when traveling?
The FRRO officer and the travel agent said the resident permit SHOULD be enough, but they acknowledged that the hotel clerk would probably do what he/she wanted to do in the end. Any experience here?

Hotels always ask for a passport.
By the way, you'll be getting a load of spam putting your email addy on the internet.

GoanGoan......here & there
I suggested to Mrs N that she bring her passport with her when we went to Kerala ...just in case she had to prove that she was not foreign! Glad to say that no one did doubt it and no-one asked to see her passport.
It is necessary that your husband should carry original Resident permit. It is also better that he carries a photo copy of his passport. Most of the star hotel don't ask for passport but will ask for original resident permit.
We went up the road to Panjim for a night in the Mandovi and they asked for a passport. We hadn't thought of carrying them. They wanted the do$h though.
ps. it's a dive.
