Life in Hyd
Basically want to know school situation, see there is an International school in Banjara Hills, and what we can expect family life to be like eg. weekend activities, any golf, clubs for kids etc. Housing, gyms, driving etc.

Thanks Adunut. When are you relocating? We are still at decision making stage, but never having been to India I have no idea what to expect. I have lived out of UK since '95 and am used to setting up home in new countries, and realise that life is what you make of it, but some basic info on real life would be appreciated. Houses, gyms, driving, schools etc

May be a good idea to connect with these folks. Not a lot of local info in this site, but could be useful to socialise after you land there. You could meet people who have gone through similar issues while moving to the city, and get some info in the process.

yes, there is an international school at banjara hills. i think they follow the american system. there are many other private schools, but i guess the indian system may not be suitable for a short stint.
housing: more expensive expat locations would generally be banjara hills or jubilee hills, though i have had expat friends living anywhere and everywhere in secunderabad and hyderabad. it all depends on what you are willing to pay, and where you/your family's "beat" (places of work, schools etc) would be. if you know where the workplace is and what the budget is, i could make some suggestions. hyderabad is generally easier to live in than other large indian cities like delhi, calcutta or mumbai, but traffic specially during peak hours can be murder.(i would definitely recommend a driver, at least initially). since you say you havent been to india, though, let me say that "easier" is a relative term. it has also fewer options for weekend getaways and such like compared to those cities. enough of history and in-city sightseeing to keep you busy for sometime, though. it all depends on what you like to do with your time. gyms are almost everywhere, in clubs or hotels and even otherwise. there is a golf club. no idea how good it is. maintained apparently by the army, so the golfing should be ok. other than this, bigzero's idea is excellent, and there are enough expats in hyderabad to give you feedback once you arrive. hope this helps |
