| Got my PIO card after ... 17 months!! Hi there, I applied for my PIO card in April 2006 and today, I finally got it through registred post. Or I should say: my husband got it, as his name was on the letter... So I celebrate this event by finally becoming member on IndiaMike.com... Cheers! |

| Congratulations and Welcome to IndiaMike.com! ![]() But... 17 Months! If they had to trace an obscure grandparent I could understand, but if it is straight-forward marriage to an Indian citizen! Mine took a week! Do tell where and how you applied? |

| I wonder why 17 months too - I am going to try for mine next year in NZ and they are saying it will take only 15 days. This kind of news makes me nervous... there was a poster recently who also got his in 15 days.

| I live in India since 10 years, but being a resident of a small town and not of the five major cities, I had to apply at the MHA in Delhi. And that was the problem, I guess... To talk to them on the phone to get to know the status of my application would take me -without exaggeration- 2-3 hours of constant dialling. They just don't pick up the phone or put it aside. When I would get through them, they would tell me that they are waiting for the Marital Status Report, which has to be issued by the state capital. When I would call the concerned department, they would tell me they sent it long time back. And so on... Finally I myself procured a copy of my Marital Status Report and sent it to the MHA. In between, this must have been around January 2006, they told me no PIO-card is being issued due to a policy revision. Meanwhile, my 5 year visa had expired and twice I got a 6 months extension. And finally, the Demand Draft had expired and I had to revalidate it!!! Today I ask myself what are really the advantages of this card as I have to register at the Foreigner's Office anyway, just a few months later... |

| Here are some reasons why I am going back to NZ to do it - have already contacted them and they have emailed all details for requirements with a very clear list. Doesn't look like a problem I hope! Nothing about a Marital Status Report.. Just original marriage certificate and husband's passport. |

I think it is wise to apply from one's country of origin, whenever possible, things seem to go much faster. | |

| What a lot of hassle for you - but congratulations you have finally got it!! It seems if you do it here a new 'rule' always comes up... I am hoping this won't be the case in NZ. |

| I applied for a PIO card on 9/13/2007. I mailed all materials to New York. They called me saying that they need an additional $25 because my passport is a Japanese passport I'll post again when I get the PIO card. |

| Best of luck, Sailaway. I am sure you will get it fast. To be fair, I must tell that my son got his within 3 weeks in Germany. So I am pretty sure the MHA was the problem. |

| I got my PIO card I just received my PIO card by mail It was a bit less than a month, not bad considering they had to refer Japan (my home country) for my status. Besides the visa, I'm interested in this benefit:
This is somewhat vague - I hear that banks allow PIO holders to invest in Indian stocks directly. I may be able to buy real estates in India - that might help if I decide to retire in India. I have conflicting info about whether PIO holders can get in, say, Taj Mahal with "Indian" fee - does anyone know about these, or point me to a relevant thread? |

| Just a piece of additional information: I've seen people married to Indian citizens just being active in a job in India. the authorities know and they really don't care. I suggested the guy to apply for a PIO and he said it isn't needed. It seems that this is somehow tolerated in spite of the fact that it is in fact not allowed. |
