From Goa to Kerala
Hi Guys & Girls,
Is there enyone who went from Goa to Kerala, following the coast, by means of own transportation, no busses or trains?? Are the roads OK., is it safe and is it worth it ?? Which roads to take (avoid), places to stay (budget), beaches to see, etc. We would like to do it with a car, so how much time do we have to count on for a round trip? Thanks |

we went from fort cochin to goa/ panaji by car, last months, about 800 km, in two days, 20 hours driving, more or less. roads are comparatively good for indian standards, and it's beautiful.

Dream route of karnataka
Karwar, Gokarna, Udupi, Mangalore, Honnavar are some of the places you touch.
There are some good and quiet beaches. Accomodation is fine. Gokarna "Om" Beach, Udupi beach, Ullal beach and Malpe near Manglore, Murudeshwar beach are all good. Very good temple towns. If you get a chance, a slight detour from udupi will be to goto Agumbe in the western ghats for a good sunset view and beautiful climate, elegant surroundings. Dont miss if you have your own transportation. Follow the link for good districtwise maps of karnataka. http://www.my-kannada.com/p/r/ Have a good time. |

did that route last year from arambol to kanya kumari. Had a bike Enfield 350cc, 83 model. A trip worth doing if, very different from back home. A trip like this needs a traveller with street sense and little else. I packed a light tent and also a hammock with a mosquito net, ideal to sleep on a hideaway at a beach, travel light as its all good weather and nice just 1 fleece and a raincoat. Lots of resthouses to stay in if you stay that way, plaves to stop in:- Arambol, Palolem area (Patan or something quite), Gokarn - Om Beach and the three sisters, Murudeshwar (bhole nath statue), Some lovely beaches near udipi, Ullal beach in mangalore, Kasargod (some lovely old fort near hear), Kottayam beach, then lots of choices as you are back to the tourism areas of kerala, don't miss the river ride on the backwaters, periyar sanctuary and varkala beach (the southern chiller beach) finish the journey at kanya kumari and bask in the achievement. try goint from delhi to panamik in the summer and you will have done two awesome journeys. cheers.

There are many people I know who have bought bikes in Goa...Bicycles... stripped them of the heavy unecessay parts and cycled the route...Leaving the bulk of their packs in Goa...
The route is beautiful and you will come into contact with areas untouched by the tourist industry... Bryan
