Fishing
Has anybody ever been out with a fishing boat in either Goa or Kerala . When i was in Goa i came across them on the beach and thought it would be great to go out on one with its crew for the days fishing . I have also seen the same types of boat on the T.V about Kerala . Is it possible to maybe talk to the fishermen and be allowed to tag along for the experience . I should be getting to goa in December and then Kerala about a month or two after that . Has anybody had any experience of this ,i would love to know as i think it would be a great experience . Instead of the usually tame fishing outings provided by tour companys

fish
Hi Ken, in Goa you can do the fishing you're talking about. Go to Dona Paula (Panjim) around 7a.m. It will cost b/n Rs. 500-1000. The fishing is line fishing, no reels, and with fishermen who are fishing for a living. The craft is a canoe with an outboard.
You will go out to Bat Island and have a picnic there and return by evening. This is kind of a cross b/n traditional fishing and tourist charters. Local fishermen will take people out - other locals, and the passenger brings petrol and feni or whisky. And you just fish ... no picnics. (Or you may have to just sit and watch.) These fishermen fish mainly with nets, but are also prepared to fish with lines, just depending what it's like on the day. The boats they fish from take three people so if two are on there would be room otherwise I think it would be too many with four. Many of the boats/canoes are about 5 metres long by around 1.5 m wide. Hope this helps. |

Cauvery fishing camp, Bhimeshwari, Galibore and Doddamakali - around 100 kms from Bangalore are the best spots for fishing.
For more details on above places u have to check the website of the concern that runs these facilities here www.junglelodges.com |

Drunken Fishermen
Thanks Mapex ,thats sound advice . Would it be best to maybe go a day before and ask the fishermen if it would be ok . And how much Feni and diesel would they probably consume in a day . I wouldn t want to take too much Feni and too little diesel and be left floating on an engineless boat with a crew of drunken Fishermen.
Im sure there is a joke about that . Anybody else that has tried this trip please reply . Thanks to Aztec , i will check out the link . |
