English courses for staff
Hi All,
Some of our staff have missed out partly or completely on education but are keen to learn English. Over the past years they have learned the ABC and with help of some English courses on CDs they have picked up some words. However the courses we have are not very well structured and learning is limited. So I was hoping somebody could recommend a good English course. It will have to something that we can download or buy on a CD. Please note that some of the people have only just learned to read and write the ABC and are illiterate in any other language including the one they speak. Also all speak different local languages. So we need something they can read in English and has pictures to explain what it is. Perhaps a tall order but I thought I ask. Thanks

Hi... have you heard of these? http://www.rosettastone.com/ They *might* be something that would work for your staff, as they are very simple and work with images and sounds, not the usual grammar and "My name is John" kind of thing. It's not cheap, but there is a demo you can download from the site and they are meant to be very effective. I tried the hindi one (sadly I suck at learning languages though.. and hindi has to be one of the hardest, coming from english), and also looked at a few other demos.
It's nice as it will have a photo ... girl, boy, horse, dog etc... and then you hear someone say it. Very simple and clear. Also I see they have british *or* american english ![]() Good luck! |
