divorce papers

Hi

I have been to registry office at KR Puram in Bangalore to register the marriage to my Indian wife, the registrar was asking for a signature on my divorce papers, the paper that I have says the decree was made final and absolute and was dissolved last year. Does anyone know of divorce papers from UK whether they are signed by the judge or is just the county court stamp sufficient?

TIA

Your question aroused my curiosity - sorry I can't answer re UK but Australia there is a stamp for the Magistrate's Court and it is signed over it by the Registrar. Maybe similar for UK?

If you have official papers, that should do.

At least you can prove that you're divorced. Proving that you have never been married is, for most people, impossible, but still sometimes required.

The Registrar will keep asking all sorts of questions. If its not this, it will be something else. Their questioning usually stops after a small baksheesh is handed over. May be worth usuing a local to get the job done. Has anyone tried http://www.yourmaninindia.com/

What counts with official papers, more than anything, is that they look impressive. Lots of rubber stamps will go down well, and a big, red seal will definitely win the day!

I made a statutory declaration in London, all sorts of fancy language and a seal on the bottom. Cost me £40. Our registrar wasn't interested, saying that if I said I wasn't married that was good enough for her. She was one of those gem government officers who was completely straight and any bribes were utterly out of the question.

That looks an interesting site, crvlr. I tried to register but the connection failed when I submitted (nothing wrong with MY connection). I thought I'd check it out for my Driver's Licence!

Well, it might have made a difference, though I have met honest helpful male govt officers too!

We wish we could have registered our house there. That was expensive. Ouch.
