You can ask Radz, she is a pro & will help you to decide.
Have you checked out the range of cameras made by Sony? You can visit a Sony world outlet or a Sony dealer.

I own a Canon S1 IS and love it. Check it out.

A bit bulky to carry though.

You should take a look in the Geek Speek forum here, you'll find several threads on this topic.

Take a look at Sony DSC W7 (there is a sibling 5 MP version) . I have a predecessor of this , the Zeiss lens is fantabolous. This version can use AA´s.

Casio Exilim

Ken Rockwell who is a Nikon SLR geek is a big fan of the Casio Exilim series (see http://www.kenrockwell.com/casio/exz750.htm). Some of the other reviews are equivocal, but they do apparently have fantastic battery life and the S500/S600 are really, really, tiny.

Yesterday, I purchased the Sony DSC-W5 after a bit of research. It uses 2 AA batteries (rechargeable batteries and charged came with camera). I am just starting to play with it, but overall it seemed like a very good choice. It doesn't have a long delay between pictures, which was one of the determining factors for me. I just hope I don't lose it in India!

visit www.jjmehta.com.....to get all the info related to camera regarding price, tech spec etc..

also visit:
www.dpreview.com
www.steves-digicams.com
www.dcresource.com
www.megapixel.net

For your budget, i would advise you to go for Canon A-520

4 MP camera, 4x optical zoom

excellent image quality....easy point-n-shoot camera with lots of manual options to play with

also attachment for wide-angle or telephoto lens.....should cost you around INR 14000

Or go in for any Nikon coolpix series camera

Canon S2 is quite expensive.....in excess of INR 30k..

canon ixus 750

Just bought the Canon Ixus 750 for 390 Euro's in the netherlands. It's amazing and does great pictures. I wouldn'tknow what it would cost in India, but I definetely recommend it.

Digital Cameras

There isn't all that much difference between cameras with the same number of pixels made by any of the major Japanese companies -- Canon, Fujifilm, Nikon, Olympus, et al.

What counts most is the pixels. With six (6) or more you'll be able both to (1) print large photos and (2) crop small parts of a photo and print them without distortion.

I currently have an Olympus (4) and a Fujifilm (10) and the difference in quality when I print photos is huge.

I have Fuji Finepix 810 - and I'm thrilled with it. 6m pixels and 12m effective pixels whatever that means. You can check out my LP photo entry (number 95 or 97) entitled 'Tank at Talkad' for the December photo competition.
