If your employer is an Indian company like Infosys or Wipro or a MNC with large Indian presence like IBM they will have tie up with banks for salary accounts. Usually they have tie up with ICICI or HDFC as these two banks have the optimum of quite wide reach all over India and efficient service with good internet banking.
you will not have to do these bank processings yourself. someone from your office or the bank will contact you and guide you in this matter. I am sure your experience will be quite different from that of tourists because these banks tend to take their corporate account customers very seriously (there are separate grievance redressal mechanisms). Do not worry too much about household electronics.... Hyderabad is undergoing a retail boom this days... everyday some new consumer goods chain(PCH, NEXT) comes up in one of the umpteenth malls coming up all over the place. These places will stock all the common brands like Samsung, LG, Onida, Sony, electrolux, IFB etc. If you buy a clutch of good from the same place (like TV, fridge, washing machine, dvd player etc) you tend to get a hefty discount. |

The consumer electronics thing in India is improving, but it is still a pale shadow of UK

I want to buy a flat-screen TV - either LCD or Plasma Display. Size would be 46".
I would think that a (static) contrast ratio of 30,000:1 would be min for me. Any recommendations? I am thinking of LG, Samsung or Philips. Price that I am looking at is max Rs 55,000. I am in India. Canuck-eh |

Well, as there's little high-definition TV in India, going all-out for resolution specs (like 1080P or super-high contrast ratios) is of little benefit, unless you watch a lot of DVDs. My experience is that LCD has richer colors if one is typically watching it in normal light, while Plasma is better for watching in dim or darkened rooms.
I'd stick with brands that are widely available locally, like the ones you mention. Rs. 55K seems awfully low for a 46", but I haven't watched the prices lately.

Same here , but there might be offers running which allow for that.... i know Philips is one of the cheaper ones with their 32' LCD going at either 31,000 or around 34,000.
Videocon had a scheme going on where a 32 was coming for about 24,000 but i doubt that the specifications were anything great |
