Question Best way to move posessions London to Goa?

Hiya, i have a small but very expensive storage unit for my personal posessions in London, but as i intend to move to Goa within a few years, i was wondering if anyone could please advise me on the best way to transport my posessions quickely and safely to Goa, so that i can store it there instead to save on storage costs? I have made some enquiries here in Goa and i was told its only possible to send loose fright/cargo to Mumbai (not Goa) and that it would take atleast 3 weeks by ship then the customs officers would meticulously count every book/item and if inventory not 100% accurate then baksheesh! This sounds like a bit of a headache so i would be very grateful if any one knows if its possible to pay extra cargo charges on charter/schedule flights to Goa/Mumbai so that i could just pick up the stuff at the other end? Also if anyone could please recommend any airlines who are happy to offer this service and approx cost, that'd be really helpful too, or otherwise any recommendations for reliable international removers/storage Cos from London to Goa would be great.
Thanks alot and all the best to you all, from TDK.

Be very careful. Some friends sent over some household goods in a crate and had all the problems you describe. It was something to do with different offices handling different types of goods. They spent 2 days in Mumbai going around various offices signing papers and bunging. I'll try and get in touch with them and get something more specific.

Hi Goan Goan, and thanks alot for your reply to my query, and for letting me know that your friends had a hassle with trying to send cargo over to Goa.I just read another link from another member who said they managed to sucessfully use Air France's cargo service to send over two large boxes (even if they still had to fill in tons of forms and go via Mumbai). From what i undersatnd, Charters airlines (that fly direct to Goa) don't allow cargo onboard - but if anyone has managed to do this could you please let me know which airline and how easy it was to get through customs etc?
Thanks again and all the best from TDK.

The problem wasn't the shipping, they sent it by sea,it was the releasing it from Mumbai.Be careful how you designate the contents.

I have bought an apartment in Goa and are interested in shipping household stuff to Goa. Like you I am still clutching at straws at shipping companies, costs involved and Indian beauracracy.

What are the chances of sharing a container between 3 or 4 people who are interested in cutting down on costs? (Food for thought)

I live in the Midlands, UK.

I might be doing this in the future. I got a coupe of quotes to see how they looked, and it sems perfectly feasable to ship on a shared-container basis and be charged only for cubic capacity you use.

Google for 'International removals' or something like that, see the websites and ring a couple of companies for a chat. They'll even send an estimator to see you.

Thanks Steve and Nick for your suggestions. I just requested some quotes on the net for Int' removals so i'll wait n see what they can offer & let you know if i find a good one. As my stuff is in London and i'm not exactly sure when i can move it, it may be too tricky for me to arrange to share a large container, but thanks for the suggestion.
I'll keep you posted,Cheers TDK
