basic stay in the country

Wish to stay for several months in a nice quiet environment. Absolutely not in a city.
India is one of the most crowdiest countries in the world, but I am sure there are enough lovely places to live.
A room is enough, and possibility to cook and shower. Yoga class nearby would be great.

If something pops up, please send me an email.

Bye!

Lots of places would match this description. Have any preference about which part of India you want to settle on - North, South, East West?

Here's a recent thread that might be of help Where would you live?

No not really. I want to start with an ashram visit for several weeks and after that I want to find myself a nice place to stay. I am not interested in visiting hot spots of India, but chill for awhile. Not to see, but to be. Nature is important.
My idea was to select a village in the country (during my stay in the ashram), go there and talk a little with locals about renting a room.
But advice of Indiamikers are absolutely welcome, more than welcome. Cause after all comparing with the Netherlands, India is a big country!

Bye!

Why India then?

Why India then? Sounds like you're really looking for something else, a nice quite cabin (with shower and kitchen) out in the European countryside would do quite well, don't you think?

So true. But for a combination with yoga and ayurvedic massage course, I think India is the place to be. I am following a yogastudy here in Holland but the approach is too unnatural for me. So I was thinking: if I want to learn Italian, the most natural place to study would be in Italy.... And for Yoga and ayurveda...mmmmhhhh.......well ...you can fill yourself. And of course the weather... Even in Portugal the weather was brrrrrrr during this winter...

Bye and a smile,

The thought hadn't crossed my mind. I was only wondering why India, and also what you described seems like it could be done anywhere else: nothing that requires one to be in India.

smilingso, unless in IMer has had a personal experience and can help you, i think it will be hard to find what you are looking for on the net. Mysore is a smaller sized city (south india) that has a number of reputed yoga schools. You could start off there, make some inquiries and hopefully that will lead you to dream spot..

Yeah Temp, and there are only a few ashrams in Europe.

Crvlr: Mysore, I keep in mind. My first idea was to start in the North, Rishikesh, Bihar, and go from there. I am going to find out what Mysore is all about...;-)
Thanks to all.

Sounds to me like you might have an overly romanticized view of India, but good luck! I just hope you're tough enough to handle it.
