Are there any homeschoolers out there?

I have found conflicting information on the internet (surprise, surprise) about homeschooling in India.

Does anyone out there homeschool? Does anyone know whether or not it's legal?

I'm just looking at all the options

Kind regards,

Danie

I don't think the Indian authorities are going notice or care what you do with your own kids.

There may be some law about it, but, as nick says, nobody bothers.

I know of a few people who homeschool in India.. either they are dirt poor, or filthy rich.

Or in between as it is growing rapidly. Its not like in Europe where Fascism still is a social ideal in places like Germany. Noticed there is a Gujarati homeschooling group in the US. Great place to do it with less media distraction. There are some great materials available for doing social studies on India as well..

Interesting, maybe they backed off from a drastic proposal in a prior year. People were being mobilized for letter writing. Glad to hear it. Qualification is an interesting subject. When I have an education major I keep a sharp eye on them. They have a reputation for being prone to cheating as well as being dim..

They've just passed a law to make child labour illegal here.

Maybe they'll get around to making education compulsory in a decade or three....

Just teasing. But where else do you have an "order police" to keep you from practicing the piano in the afternoon lest you disturb someone's nap? Still, I love Bavaria and forgive all on a summer afternoon hoisting a cold one to the scenery of N. castle. Vas ist los? Where is my veiner ..

homeschooling is quite common in many areas of the US (especially among conservative christians) and permissible in every state, i believe, so long as the curriculum is approved to meet minimal education standards. in fact, however, most home-schooling curriculae exceed those standards.

so what is wrong with having "quiet time" between 12 and 2 pm ?

sorry for the offtopic post, but I am always curious about prefabricated negativity......

Its a different cultural style that should be noted while travelling. It also carries over into a different personal savings rate. It involves getting beyond the superficial level when visiting a country. life is more than charras.
Back to the topic, homeschooling is the fastest growing educational alternative in the US. One of the most striking parental occupations involved is teachers. They see the situation in the factory schools and choose something different for their children..

For the OP, there are tons of resources on google for homeschool India. I really missed out on this in the past. Some of the support I had was from my mother in law who had participated in this as a tutor. Still, even without organization resources India is outstanding for a great education, cheap books if quality has to be searched out. Where else can you go to a village and teach weaving by direct application? Makes social studies books seem tame..

Schooling at home or homeschooling. We are expats who were not impressed with the so called International Schools in Bangalore and decided to homeschool. Actually it is online schooling...we used Penn Foster and have enjoyed the curriculum immensely. We have added activities for our childs physical and social skills. We used Penn Foster. ABEKA is being used by some other parents who made an Mass Exodus when we did, and Calvert. Calvert is the BEST, and what we will be using next year.
