In my past two jobs I got recruited through telephone interview. I think it is very common in the IT world.

For an IT job telephonic round and then face to face interview is done. But to work in india, as far as my knowledge goes you will need a company willing to hire you and call you here.
But are you trying to come here on a travel visa and find employment?...

My Job Search

I started looking in January 2007 for a dotcom marketing position. I had several emails back and forth with people, and many telephone calls. The company that hired me put me through 3 or four calls before offering me the position.

Couple suggestions. Have you considered providing a short video interview4 or five short questions like, "Why do you want to work in India?", "What makes you a strong candidate?", "Why should a company take the risk of hiring and relocating you over a local candidate?". This will enable a potential employer to see how you present yourself as well as answering the top three big questions they may have (at least they were in my experience).

There are job boards where you can post your resume on-line. monster.com has an Indian job board (that's where my resume was found). I really didn't do much more than that, except to do research on linkedin.com to find dotcoms in India that catered to the US market. I needed to find a company that required not only significant dotcom experience, but significant dotcom experience in the US market. That was my unique proposition as a candidate.

When offered positions, I negotiated for monthly stipends for housing and transportation. I also negotiated relocation costs. The company that I eventually joined didn't give me everything I wanted, but for India, it is a quite generous package. You may also want to negotiate potential risks such as who will pay for relocation back to your country of origin in the event it doesn't work out or there becomes an issue with your visa?

I found the interview process much less stressful than I anticipated. I expected to have to fly out a number of times for interviews, but it was done by phone. The linkedin.com recommendations and my reputation/visibility on-line probably helped as well.

Don't discount the video too quickly. Try to have it done by a professional - quality does count. Good luck with your job search. :-)

Well, I'm obviously decades behind the times .

I couldn't imagine that any employer would get past the very early stages of selection without meeting face to face.

Good luck in your search!

Hi,
I'm italian and I'm joining an Indian Company. They found my cv on the net and I had 4 phone (and Skype) interviews with the company.

It is possible!

Hi There
I have just returned from a job hunting trip to Mumbai. I spent months applying for work on job search engines all of which I was more then qualified to do and did not get one resposne and I put this down to the fact that I was not in the country. So I spent another couple of months doing research and getting in touch directly the people I wanted to work with. I made contact with a headhunter, got a ticket and went over. I had over 8 interviews in 3 weeks and some of them transpired into 3rd interview stage. I am now waiting for my contract to come through as one of the advertising agencies did not have a role but after meeting me several times, and based on my exp and personality are prepared to create a role for me. I honestly think you should go over there and meet with people. How do you know if you want to work with someone when you have never met them. How can you hope to negotiate with them or be sure you get the right role and package if you dont meet them. Getting a job and having interviews is very similar in India to your own country and you would interview at home...right? If you are serious about relocating let them know by being there and going after it. You need to see where you are going to work and understand the culture in the company. You will spend alot of time there and with those people so make sure its right. They were my most expensive job interviews but also my most rewarding. Good luck!!
