I would appreciate if you could please tell me how do they offer the jobs in India for overseas applicants / candidates. Does one have to go to India for the interview.
We are in the process of relocating to India and looking for Hotel management jobs, but most employers keep saying how they would interview us if we are not there for the interview, so they decline giving us the job Any help would be appreciate kind regards |

What else would you suggest they do? Sorry, I'm baffled by this one... unless a company is actually recruiting in your country...

Thank you for your reply
It is just that many years ago one could get a job without going overseas to be interviewed for it. We hear of many who have found jobs in India so we were wondering how they went about with the recruitment whether they travelled overseas for the interview. kind regards |

It's not that odd. Interviews can be done by phone/skype or often with the help of messengers (msn/yahoo) and a webcam. Of course this is more common in fields where the internet is part of the job.
Of course it is different if the job candidate is sitting in front of you... But it can give a first impression, and this can be the base, maybe for a temporary contract. |

Applying for Jobs - How do they interview Overseas applicants
Thank you all for your replies to our question of overseas interviews for hospitality mgmt jobs
Just thought with all this hi-tech stuff that there may be ways around it. And after hearing many going back to India for employment if they all travelled back for an interview. Thank you again With appreciation |

Whatever happened with telephone interviews???
Why don't you suggest it unless u happened to be a chef and would be required to whip up something nice to qualify ![]()

He is associated with horpitality industry..in the industry a persons personality and other physical aspects are very important..specially at such senior level..
Generally companies do hire through web confrencing from abroad but thats only when they have shortage of good talent on Home turf..and as far as my limited experience there are lot of professionals in Indian market itself who are good enough.. even though compnioes hire expats in very high end jobs, specially technical ones, one otherwise they do avoid hiring expats in other fields like becasue the person is not aware about Indian mentality, laws, regulations etc.. The best shot would be to explore naukri.com, monster.com, jobsahead, timesjob, clickjobs etc for available opputunites, especially with the consultants and recruitment firms..and talk to someone senior there.. These people might be able to pull it off for you..as they would understand the limitations of their client..beyond black and white.. |

In senior roles like these, most competitive companies would go for a three tier approach
a) Telephone/net based interview where the management gets a hang of how you are and your general fit for the role b) In Your Country face to face interview, typically done by a business partner whom they trust OR local representative - if there is one c) On site face to face interview (travel costs born by the recruiter) When I used to work around staffing arena, we have offered people based only on (a) for junior/entry levels. Basic management and consultive roles would be handled with (a) and (b) where local country HR representative would interview on our behalf, and for senior roles the outcome of (b) would help us to know if we need to spend for the international travel costs for the (c). If the company asks you to travel to the country for a F2F interview on your costs, I would personally rate them as not competitive enough to hire an expat.

What about a holiday in India combined with the possibility of a face to face interview? Like in some matrimonial adds... "girl/boy is living abroad but will be visiting India for 2 weeks in September".... and in this case it's you who would decide about the time period.
Only going to India and asking in hotels seems not appropriate for such a position. But giving the possibility for a F2F interview, why not? Especially as you want to relocate to India. Maybe the case would be different if you were just looking anywhere in this world for a job. If I would be an employer, I would spend the extra cost for the flight only if I wouldn't get someone in India, but if I can get such a highly qualified person without spending too much on an interview, then I would prefer him to anyone who has just local job experience... And I must add, an internationally qualified hotel manager is something that can't be found on every corner in India. There are enough hotels who would need a person like your husband. |

Thank you very much for your suggestions and job search websites
My husband has made many trips but they were not for job search, but for being with his aged Mother. Are there any chain hotels in N.America which are in India, who will interview one in N. American on behalf of India It seems like the employment agencies want him for the F2F interview, i guess they have to as they get paid for this reason. Do the Sarovar hotel have chain in N. America who can interview my husband on behalf of India. I know this is an unrealistic question but i just thought i would ask With appreciation |
