Any experience with IT job hunting in India?
Hi,
I've been thinking about going to India to work. I'm a person of Indian origin and with an OCI card, I can legally work and live in India. I'm a software guy, so there should be no shortage of jobs available to me. However, I've applied via the usual jobs sites such as Monsterindia.com and Naukri.com, but there is no response from companies. After that, I e-mailed my resume directly via company websites for job openings. Still, a week on, and no replies. Just wondering if anybody has any experience with this. How long do these companies usually take to respond to e-mail? If e-mail is not an efficient communication medium for job hunting in India, what should I do next? Call companies directly? Go to India and walk through their front doors? I'm open to suggestions. Thanks! Fullred ![]() |

Should be no shortage of jobs.............very true but I'm pretty sure you'll be standing in a long line of other just as qualified Indians.
Best of luck though, just thought I'd advise "it's a Jungle out there" and urban one ![]() |

Disclaimer: I am not a software guy, though I worked for a couple of years in managing a company a few years ago.
Most Indian companies, unfortunately, do not respond to emails unless they need you. The best thing to do is to search for jobs at those same websites and apply specifically to the appropriate ones. (versus applying generally at the company websites, which you seem to have done). You could also post your resume' online at naukri and monsterindia It is also useful to see the appointments section of Indian newspapers, which are usually full of software opportunities. Don't know if you have access to those. The Times of India has an online presence at timesjobs.com; dont know if it includes all their ads. The Hindu, Indian Express and the Hindustan Times are other newspapers you could check out. Perhaps some software person here can tell you of more websites or better ones for software professionals.

Captain, is there anything in India you don't know about?
Thanks again for great advice.Since I'll be in India in a few months, I will definitely take all the newspaper ads and so-called walk-in sessions into account. Fullred ![]() |
