Another Question about moving to India!.

Hi guys,

I am keen to possibly move to Inida (Goa) around December 2005. I have been to India before and am very much interested in working a few days a week in a childrens organage. I also like the laid back lifestyle and the fact that you don't have to own a lot or NEED a lot when in India.

I would have some savings but also have some good skills with computer design etc so was thinking I could maybe design and sell business cards, menu's etc and do some web-design work. This would not be for the intention to save but purely to survive in India and allow some travelling around India.

I was just wondering what your thoughts are about this? I have a NZ and Irish passport but am living in London at present. How easy would it be for me to get a long term visa? How long would it be for? How do I go about getting one? How easy is it to rent long term in Goa?

Thanks guys I appreciate your feedback!.

Hi Tornado,

I am also a Web Designer but I really only want to be working a couple of days a week and I am not sure exactly what I want to do yet. I am thinking I can use my skills somehow. I don't want to work in the busy cities as I plan on chilling in Goa or somewhere similar and bascially earning enough to survive and travel around India.

I don't like the hussle and bussle of working in a big city and that is why I am leaving London to go chill in Goa!.

Take care and good luck!.

Guys
There's loads of dood web designers and graphic artists in Goa, Mumbai and many Indian cities. They can be employed for next to nothing. Do some research before you make any definite plans.

Also Goa s only good during the season. The off season is pretty dead and its impossible to get anything done.

Bill

Hey -

I am going to work in Bangalore. Was just going to travel but thought that since this is my first trip I might work awhile and get save up some cash and get my bearings straight. It sounds like Bangalore is a good place although a bustling city. I'll be there Jan '05 how aboutyou guys? I have met an Irish publisher that does lots of business in Bangalore he is a friend of one of my best friends so he will be a great help. His company is actually in New York. Just published a book on Sahaja Yoga "The Third Advent" so I am reading a little on that .....stay in touch

Hi again,

I didn't intend to work as a Web Designer in India!.

I have a few different design skills that I can use but I won't be doing any Web Design. I am only going back in May and it's purely to visit an orphange in Bangalore. I am then coming back to London to save for the rest of the year and then I want to go back to India end of 2005 for 6 months or so. I am making good money here in London as a Web Designer so I have no intentions of going to India for the same thing and earn peanuts.

I am earning the money here in London so I can then go to India and just chill out and maybe work in an orphanage a few days a week. I am sure my skills can come in handy somewhere!.

Safe travels everyone!.

about 8 a.m. here in US - well I had not thought about the job thing but --since I've not been there thought the work experience might ginveme a chance to meet some peeps (local) and see what it was like. I'm going to get an apartment also - your welcome if down that way.

Just an observation, there might be heaps of web designers in India, but very few 'designed' web pages that work. Most look like they are thrown together with little understanding of design, heaps of trinkets, bad links, poor editing and more than likely charge heaps for the page which is not worth more than Rs 3,000. So the web designers are a paise a dozen and valued as such.

If one really knows design and have been doing it for a long time then with a good portfolio work will be good. Its all about producing excellence, many businesses want it but the designers can't produce it, so if you can then go for it but I personally know web design is about 500% over priced and excellent template style sites will be a ripper business wise.

Thumbs up Yo Trvlaway...me too

Mellow greetings fellow humans
Just wanted to say to Trvlaway that I am doing exactly the same thing. I am a bit dubious about the size of Bangalore by hope I can find some good yoga & ayurveda classes. Intrigued by the book on Sahaja Yoga...couldn't find it on a search - who is it published by.

Happy travelling and see you in Bangalore
