| Member | American Moving to northern Assam I've posted a question here before about me moving to India. We've seemed to finally have completed our first deal which will be in Chubwa, Assam (northern Assam). Is there anyone on here that has lived there or knows of good contacts there?? I will need a flat, driver, and will need to know where the closest watering hole is for sure! I have lots more questions and would love to speak/email to someone who knows the area. big thank you, Andy |

| Ok.Yes,I had spent about an year in Dibrugarh. The nearest civil airport is Mohanbari, where flights are landing these days.Chabua is near to Mohanbari is a defence airport.Dibrugarh is the town near to the airport and having all the facilities one can expect there including hotels, hospitals, transport etc.It is basically a business town caters to Tinsukia,Sivsagar in Assam and some parts of Arunachal Pradesh. |

| Member | Thank you for your reply. So where would you suggest I live? I prefer to be in a city environment. Are their decent apartments for rent? If so, are there places online to find them? I also have a cat that has to come with me. He is an indoor cat so will never go outside. Do you think this will be an issue? Andrew |

| Hi Andrew, I am from Chabua (my mom's side) and still go there once every year. Do you work in tea industury? Anyways, i will try to answer your questions. Chabua is a small town between Dibrugarh and Tinsukia. It has a defence airfield and few tea gardens around it. The AT (Assam Trunk) road passes through it but the condition of the road at some place is bad Nearest airport is Mohanbari (dibrugarh). Unless you want to experience indian village life, you may want to live in tinsukia or dibrugarh, as chabua is very small town. Only problem is the commute to chabua but if you get a car & driver, its easy. There is a train also connecting the two cities. Chabua, Being a small town, you won't find many sources of entertainment. There is one bar i think and few shops that sell alcohol. There used to be one movie hall but i think it has either shut down or close to being shut down. Your best bet is to find a club (they usually have one in tea gardens) and join that. Chabua also has a hospitable built by Tatas and supposedly has very good medical facilities. You can find nursing homes in dibrugarh. It rains quite heavily in assam during teh monsoon. So, unless your cat doesn't like the rainy season, you and your cat should have a good time there. If you need any further help, do ask and i will try my best |

| You can stay in Dibrugarh town.Flats are available on rent in and outside of the town.I dont think you can book it online. You can land up there, put up a hotel and find out a place, rates of the hotel are cheap.Pet cat is no issue at all,you will find every 5th house has got a pet and that too lives stealing neigbors property. |
