Cool Advice for Qualified English & Drama Teacher

Hello,

I am a qualified English and drama teacher and am interested in teaching in India. I would like to find out where I can get information and details of job vacancies. Have looked on the tes but there doesn't appear to be anything in India.

Are you currently teaching in India? Where? Are you enjoying it? How did you get your job? What can you tell me about pay and conditions? I will be in India for 6 weeks in March/April so could do some research when I am there as well.

Any information/advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Dramatics

Have you tried the NSD? National School of Drama. Then again, there is the Film Institute of India in Pune. What about the Zee Film making institute? AAFT, Noida ?

Many residential schools in the Himalayas (I attended one) offer dramatics as an extra-curricular activity and may require a drama teacher. I think the Trinity College of London (ATCL / LTCL) credentials are good enough to apply for a full time position.

Some website leads :

1. National School of Drama : http://nsd.gov.in/
2. Film Institute of India : http://www.ftiindia.com/
3. Zee Institute : http://www.zica.org
4. AAFT : www.aaft.com

Himalayan region Schools :

1. St. Paul's School, Darjeeling : www.spsdarjeeling.com
2. Doon School, Dehradun : http://www.doonschool.com
3. Woodstock, Mussoorie : http://www.woodstock.ac.in
4. St. Josephs, Darjeeling : http://www.sursumcorda.org (the website works)
5. Loreto Convent, Darjeeling : http://www.loreto.in

Hope this helps. I was very interested in Dramatics at one point...but never took it up professionally.

Cheers.

British School

Try getting in touch with the British School in New Delhi. They hire expat British teachers. I do not have their website but you can google it. Somewhere on the website you should find "Emloyment Oportunities". The job fairs for international schools are coming up soon (some are starting in January 2008) I think that Search Associates has a job fair in England. It is important to start looking now if you want to go to a big International school that will help you get your visa and provide housing. Good Luck

Marte seems to have hinted at a very important point : look for a school that is sufficiently big and that will do the paperwork regarding your visa. Try to get in touch with the headmaster / rector / principal of each insitution directly to save a lot of time. Most of the himlayan schools above will provide housing (and one meal / day) if they do take up your offer...
