Accommodation in Benaulim / Colva Hello to all, This is my first post on IndiaMike, I joined the group recently but I have been reading the posts in various forums for quite some time. Most of them are very interesting, informative and in a lot of cases entertaining. In all, a very helpful site, well done to whoever is responsible for being the catalyst for a very good source of information and help. My wife and I have lived and worked in India for a number of years and are due to return hopefully within the next two to three weeks. We will again be based in Cochin where we have already lived previously for a number of years. We are having a house built in the Benaulim / Colva area and are due to go and visit the site at the end of May, our experience of Goa is very very limited, my wife having visited on one occasion for a week where we stayed at the Leela Palace. I have visited on three other occasions where I was visiting the Indian Naval establishment INS Hansa and stayed at Bogmalo. Can anyone recommend any reasonable places to stay in the Benaulim / Colva area. I am suggesting a budget up to around Rs 2000 –3000 / day for accommodation, I am assuming we would be able to find somewhere clean and acceptable with A/C in that price range. Any help or suggestions would be most welcome. Thanks. JohnnyBP

Hi JohnnyBagpiper. Nice name! Do you work for RollsRoyce/BAE? The hotels in Colva are fairly mediocre and they mainly cater to Indian tourists in the less than Rs 1000/day bracket. Just north of Colva beach is Betalbatim beach which has an excellent hotel called Nanu Resort http://www.goahotelsindia.com/text/Nanuresort.html Another nice hotel in your budget range is the Resorte de Goa in Varca which is less than 5 km from Benaulim. http://www.goareise.de/hotel.html

Thanks for info Hi GoanCanuk, Thanks for your very informative reply, I think one of the two places you have recommended will suit us nicely. I don't want to be right at the bottom of the budget as we will also be celebrating our 34th wedding anniversary so Maureen will be expecting at least a some reasonalbe level of comfort ha ha. You were on the right track with RR / BAE, I work for an Avionics company which was previously part of the now non-existant Marconi company, we were then sold to BAe who then re-named the group BAE SYSTEMS, who then sold us to Italian Defence Group Finmeccanica, we are now called SELEX. Hence my connection with Naval Aviation at INS Hansa and Cochin. We will be meeting up with our Builder & Architect when we visit Goa, we have to choose some fixtures, fittings and finishes etc for our new place. As you can imagine I was a little perturbed when I read the thread ref the possible change in the law by the RBI ref the "180 day and Indian Company" modes of a foreigner owning property, my contacts say they have not had any news of the position yet, I am watching the thread with interest. Once again thanks for the help, If I have any other questions I know where to ask. JohnnyBP
