I will leave the job question to somebody who knows, but

-easy going jobs in the indian private sector don't really exist. you could always consult and downshift.
-the rat race and office politics is universal. speaking from experience, you don't have to be in it, wherever you are.

Working here with $50,000 in the bank is an entirely different proposition.

Read your r2i as retire to india.

If your first post had been clearer we wouldn't have wasted so much time. Actually you said working in India is not an option

Oh too right.

Office politics is alive and well, and the rat race is intensifying.

With your qualification ... it shouuld not be hard to find a job in India. Production support in IT is generally not a very stressful job in India once the systems have stabilised... So it should be possible. Moreover the salary u r willing to work for is on the lower side ..so generally speaking the rat race is less at that level. If ur experience is in ERP -SAP/ Oracle Apps etc then quite a few easy going jobs r available even if u want to teach. One of my friends has shifted back to India after 6 years in the USA, he is freelancing training people for the PMI course ( project management) and has companies like IBM who provide him with steady business
The trick would be to find a job to your liking first, try it for a few months then make the complete shift with the family.

Maybe you just need that put into Italian, then I'm sure you'd instantly understand.

Sorry I'm not able to translate....

hi nick
I found something.
Rat race: translating into italian it would be something like "a contest of speed among rats" but we have not such expression. In figurative meaning could it stand for "too high competition"?Office politics: haven't found anything yet, but I think something related with rat race.
thanx
bye
max

You're on the right track. It means the general stamp on each other, don't give a damn, strive for the boss's job, don't have any loyalty for anyone except your own ambition race for the top.

OK, I don't know why 'rats'.

Isn't it odd how we have completely different imagaes in different langauges! I thought this one would be international.

Rats universally are self centred and don't give a damn; pretty much like our traffic here.
if u r considering r2i, be prepared to adjust; there's lots that a OECD citizen would take for granted, but is not available in our country; viz: uninterrupted power, working traffic signals, decent roads, etc etc. For livelihood, training is a good option, any university/ pvt college/ should be relatively easy. Suggest that you recce here b4 you decide; if you love it you would'nt trade it for anything in the world.

"Easy-going" job? The only "easy" jobs in India are government jobs but you have to be an Indian citizen to get those. As far as office politics is concerned, India is probably a champion in this regard. The office politics where you are now will seem trivial when compared to that you will find in any Indian company.

How about teaching English?

How about a teaching job? Is that just as bad? I really want to get out of the IT sector (at least what I;m doing now)...

To teach english at the college level you need a masters degree. With a bachelors degree you can only teach at the high school level but the salary is not very good unless you can get a job at some prestigious private school. Private tutors do make good money in India but for that you will have to teach Maths, Physics, Chemistry, to high school students. Since you do not have a background of going to school in India you will have great difficulty in following this route.
