Yeah, I've noticed I can add the 'U' sound to the end of almost any word and it seems to help! I thought people were joking when I first learned that the word for 'pencil' is 'pencilu.' Now I joke with my Telugu friends and just speak English and add the 'U' sound to virtually everything I say. It seems to get a giggle out of everyone.

I searched for 3 hours yesterday for an English-Telegu-Phonic dictionary, today I come from Chirala to Vijayawada to find the same, no luck whatsoever.

It's so difficult getting the shop owners to understand that an English-Telegu dictionary is no good to me because I can't read the Telegu words.

I've found a Telegu-Phonic-English dictionary, but how am I supposed to look up the word in Telegu when I can't read Telegu?

Seems AP doesn't want foreigners speaking Telegu.

Sad, bloody sad.

Thanks BillyShake, a very useful list, hopefully I'll get a chance to try the above line tonight.

I'll try it with a slured voice whilst swaying from side to side.

Steven, you're not going to find a good English-Telugu book. I've even ordered the crap off Amazon and it was really sad. With that in mind, I pitched my boss on the idea of selling a new book/CD to the Andhra Pradesh Ministry of Culture and he loves the idea. Now I just have to find the time to hire some people and put it together. I'm going to use another language book as a template and just see what happens.

Great idea, it would need to have a section explaining all the basics, then a dictionary.

Good luck.

Online dictionary

Today i stumbled upon dicts.info , which offer English-Telugu-English translations.
This is by no means a comprehensive dictionary. It couldn't translate a lot of basic words, but it did translate a couple of words like complete, learn, wash etc.. Its basically a hit or miss kind of website.

Emiti / yemiti is a it (generally).

Evariki? - your guess is as good as mine. Who ever..

(Seriously - Evariki (who) kaavaali? = Who needs/wants it? - when say, the office boy comes up and asks for your pen/ID/etc., for example.)

Hi Kabaary

I was reading the whole thread and found it very amusing.

"Evariki ?" is the shortened/implied question for "evariki kavali ?" meaning who needs xxx?

Say you go to someone to ask for a file or something and they in turn ask you "Evariki ?" you can say "naaku" (meaning it is for you)or say the name of the person who needs it.

"Emiti" means what.

like "emiti problem ?" means what is the problem ?

Hope I made things clear.
