I'm currently being tutored in Telugu and I'm collecting quite the phrase book. I would like to add phrases to this list (though without Hindi translations -- just English to Telugu). Is it possible to insert a table?

For now, I'll just offer a very useful phrase:

"Nenu paniki rani tagobhotu."
I am a useless a drunkard.

I must try that on our gardener's wife, next time she smiles at me .

Can you do, "Is your husband's machete really sharp?"

You've met the lady too?

Or are you speaking of the charms of Telugu women in the general sense?

A pity, too, as my Hindi rocks. (My Hindi especially rocks when speaking with a toddler. Not an articulate toddler.)
I know words, but don't know how to put all the bits together properly... And now I get to learn more words to be further combined with wrong bits!

Is the slash a male/female thing?

or maybe "Hitech city??" with this face?

How will I know if he'll take me there or not? Sorry to ask the painfully obvious, but what are 'yes' and 'no'?

Does naaku = no?

Thanks much!

Yes = Sare
Vasta = will come
Ranu = will not come
Vaddu = No (Sayin NO to things or refusal normally)

happy to help for any further telugu translations u need

I'm just learning, so my spellings are probably bad. Transliteration without using the IPA is always confusing.

I found these useful because as I learned each word, I started hearing other forms of the words and started to put together how the language is constructed. It's a beautiful language!

So do the verbs end differently if it's a male or female speaker?
not unless you're speaking of a third person: athanu vellADu (he went). aame vellindi (she went).

Telugu words

Hello all AP members.

I'm in AP till 4th Jan and will be returning at the end of Jan.

Can anyone tell me the Telegu word for snooker/pool/billiards? and the pronounciation.

I've been wanting a game of pool for a few weeks, but outside of Hyderabad I struggle to get the locals to understand me, I think they see so few western tourists, and my accent doesn't help.

Thanks.

(Edit, thanks for moving this post to the appropriate thread.)

Steven, I don't think there is a specific word in Telugu for snooker/pool/billiards, billiards would be the most popular one, in my opinion for those games.

This site has the AP Billiards & Snooker Association's address:
http://www.cuesportsindia.com/myweb/...ions/apbsa.htm

Quote:
Cue Sports Facility Centre
Khazaguda D. No. 1-61/2 - Besides Oakridge School
Hyderabad - Andhra Pradesh
Article from Hindu:

Quote:
The efforts of Capt P.V.K. Mohan, president of the AP Billiards and Snooker Association, to promote the sport in a big way got a major fillip with the State Government allotting two acres of prime land near Hi-Tec City to set up a Centre of Excellence for Billiards and Snooker.
Capt. Mohan's announcement at the formal inauguration of the second-leg of Indian Cue Masters championship with a prize money Rs.4.5 lakhat Jubilee Hills International Centre was just what the doctor had prescribed for the sport. Struggling for training space till the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh allotted the corridor of the Kotla Vijaya Bhaskara Reddy Indoor Stadium, the cueists from the State should now only look ahead.
